Do you want to be a key part in building an English department within our growing school? Do you want to be part of a team that is creating a transformational all-through school? Do you believe that every young person has the potential to gain an A* at A-level, and go on to rigorous academic study in a highly competitive University? If so, we have a new and exciting opportunity for an English Teacher to become Assistant Subject Leader in our new Secondary school.

As a new all-through school, Goresbrook has a rare opportunity to innovate, and create a superb, continuous learning experience for children from 3-18 years. Our Primary school opened in September 2014, and our over-subscribed Secondary school opened in September 2016.

As Assistant Subject Leader of English, you will deliver an outstanding curriculum to ensure all pupils make excellent progress in English and work within our Middle Leadership Team in setting the future direction and vision of the Secondary school.

Whether you are a current middle leader looking for a new challenge, or an outstanding classroom teacher seeking your first Middle Leadership role, you will play a key part in the School’s development.  As we are growing every year (840 pupils at full capacity in Secondary, including Sixth Form), there will be lots of opportunities for promotion and development.  You could play a part in leading and shaping the vision and future of our school for many years to come.

We have the children; we have the brand new state-of-the-art building; we now need you!  If you are passionate about your subject, and are excited by rigorous and innovative curriculum design, we are the school for you.

Our curriculum is based on cutting-edge insights from cognitive science and educational research.  It is designed in order for pupils to achieve mastery of content in English and maths and therefore to be able to flourish in all areas of the curriculum. We recognise the discrete nature of different disciplines of learning and ‘map backwards’ in each curriculum area from ‘readiness for University’ back to Primary.  We look at the best practice from across the globe to influence our thinking.  We have a very strong focus on core knowledge; pupils revise core content from knowledge organisers on a daily basis and frequently quiz themselves to ensure learning ‘sticks’.

We seek and act on feedback to improve constantly.  All teachers receive weekly coaching and development time in addition to planning.  Lessons are regularly recorded for personal and peer feedback.  As a result our teachers and leaders improve their practice very quickly.  As a leader, a proportion of your time will be spent coaching others.

If you want to work in an environment where you will really make a difference, Goresbrook is for you.  If our core values of ‘growth, belief and team’ resonate with you, and you enjoy a fast-paced environment that celebrates hard work and success, then you will love working here.

You are very welcome to visit us, even if you don’t end up applying for the post. We are 20 minutes on the tube from Mile End, and just 15 minutes’ drive from East London.  We love to have people visit, to participate in children’s learning and to join us for our ‘family dining’ lunch experience. Please check our website and if you would like to arrange an informal chat with the Vice Principal, Megan, or the Head of Department, Daniel, feel free to contact them directly on
