Will you work hard to ensure every child reaches their potential because you believe in effort based ability?

Why teach at Dixon McMillan Academy?

Dixons McMillan opened in September 2014 with just one Year 7 cohort.  In September 2017 we will have 450 scholars in years 7 – 10 and 130 scholars in the Sixth Form.   This is an exciting time to join a high performing senior team.  We fully believe that senior leaders are here to serve staff and scholars to ensure every barrier to learning is removed.  This post offers candidates a real step into senior leadership within a supportive and highly successful environment.   We ensure that teachers can prioritise teaching above everything else. By keeping teaching the main thing staff are able to refine and develop their practice in the classroom within a nurturing environment. Tailored coaching and considerable time to plan allows staff and students to fulfil their potential. Our values driven culture genuinely enables teachers to teach and students to learn.  We are incredibly proud of our staff and students who do what it takes for as long as it takes to be successful.   Due to the expertise of the current senior team members we can be flexible on the exact role for this post based on the skill set of the successful candidate..   The successful candidate will be: 

  • a high performing teacher and an exceptional ambitious leader  
  • confident in curriculum developments and reform  
  • proficient in the use of data to secure improvements for our scholars  
  • someone who will live and breathe the academy values and drivers to ensure our students life choices are maximized  
  • someone who can show measurable impact as an individual teacher and as a middle leader
  • focused on building strong professional relationships with all members of the DMA community  
  • able to motivate and inspire students to achieve their full potential at all times  
  • aligned to a can-do culture  

The academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Successful applicants will need to undertake a DBS enhanced clearance for the academy. A note from the Principal

As the Principal of Dixons McMillan Academy, my vision is that our school is a place where everyone feels welcome, and everyone succeeds. All of our students should receive opportunities that equip them to contribute positively to their community and the wider world, and our mission is to provide a stellar educational experience that promotes cultural capital and enrichment experiences – but at the same time, is underpinned with academic rigour and excellence. To achieve our goals, we uphold our three core values of resilience, integrity and courtesy and use our drivers of mastery, autonomy and purpose to propel us forwards.

At Dixons McMillan, staff and students live by our three core values every day. By resilience we mean that we work really, really hard and we never give up. We have a can-do attitude, and when we find things difficult we work together (as a team) to find a solution. When we refer to integrity, we mean that we are good people. We do the right thing, because it’s the right thing to do. We make decisions for the good of everyone. We are honest and have strong moral principles. And finally, when we talk about courtesy, we pride ourselves in welcoming anyone warmly to our school community – be it a visitor, a new student, or a staff member. We always have good manners and we are kind, thoughtful and polite.

Through demonstrating these three core values consistently, we ensure that students can learn and staff can teach – and ultimately, our focus on success is relentless.
