Assistant Vice Principal - English with whole-school teaching and learning

Smithills school is rich in opportunity – for pupils and staff alike. We are on a journey towards excellence and are seeking an exceptional teacher to step up to whole-school leadership of teaching & learning and to lead one of the most important academic disciplines in any school.

We want to appoint an outstanding teacher (probably already leading a department or second in a very large and successful department or faculty) who has vision, drive and ambition for our students, and who can demonstrate successful impact in their school. The post-holder will lead the whole-school’s provision and use of literacy and oracy, as well as taking responsibility for our English provision throughout the school. Additionally, the post-holder will lead on teaching and learning, staff development and CPD for the school.

If you are an English Department Head; or a Head of Year, Head of Key Stage, or middle leader with a strong track record of success in leading the improvement of provision of English or a related subject, this could be your ideal post, and we will ensure it is one with real prospects of career progression as well.

Smithills School in Bolton is an easy commute from the towns of Greater Manchester (Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Stockport etc.) and further afield from Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and South West Yorkshire.
