Job overview

Situated in West Yorkshire, with quick links to the M62 and close to Leeds and the beautiful surrounding area, Buttershaw Business & Enterprise College is an ambitious, community focused academy of 1400 students serving an area of social deprivation on the southern edge of Bradford.  It is popular locally and has been a significant shaper of the new educational landscape in Bradford. In September 2016 we became an academy within the Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust (BDAT). Within BDAT, there is an exciting opportunity to work across a variety of growing diverse schools. This could include significant career development for the right candidate.

Learning has been transformed at Buttershaw with new opportunities, new facilities and new technologies. The curriculum is innovative with courses for all abilities and we are truly proud of our inclusive approach and our commitment to see every child reach his or her potential.

The school is on a trajectory of improvement; results have improved every year for four years. The key benchmark figure of English and Maths 4+ rose by 4% this year and the school achieved its best ever GCSE results.

We now wish to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic Associate Assistant Headteacher to teach textiles, lead on ITT provision within the school and, together with the teaching and learning working group, develop teaching and learning across the school to promote good and outstanding outcomes. You will be joining a dedicated team which works with students of all abilities to remove specific barriers to learning and allow students to progress rapidly. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious teacher looking to further his/her career.

You will have:

  • Experience of teaching textiles up to GCSE level in a good or rapidly improving department
  • Successful experience in a post of responsibility in a successful technology department
  • Successful experience in promoting and supporting good and outstanding teaching
  • A proven record of achieving good results
  • The passion and skills to bring the best out of our students
  • A commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Creative and engaging skills with the ability to enthuse and challenge students

We can offer:

  • Clear and shared values and expectations
  • A commitment to tailored professional development
  • Membership of a supportive team
  • A stimulating work environment

If you have the vision and drive for excellence and you want to be part of an enthusiastic and well-resourced team we would like to hear from you. Visits to the school are encouraged and can be arranged by contacting Anna Krywyszyn on 01274 676285, or by email at alk@buttershaw.net.

The closing date for completed applications will be 9am on Thursday 23 May 2019 with interviews to be held on Friday 24 May.

Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.

Buttershaw Business & Enterprise College is an improving school.  We are an ambitious, community-focused academy of just over 1400 students serving an area of social deprivation on the southern edge of Bradford and seven miles from Leeds.  BBEC is popular locally and is rapidly becoming the school of choice for the community of Buttershaw; for the last four years we have been over-subscribed in Year 7.

BBEC is an inclusive school, our school motto is ‘We all belong at BBEC’.  We celebrate our differences and our similarities and do not tolerate discrimination of any type.  We have a bold approach to inclusion and work so that all students and staff can bring their authentic selves to school.

BBEC has a cohesive, highly skilled and ambitious staff team who work hard to ensure that every student is successful. Many of our students face multiple challenges and it is through clarity of vision, professionalism and determined support for students and for each other that we are bringing about improvement. We have the highest expectations for all our students and expect that our staff teach to the very highest level.  We have a rigorous approach to quality assurance and a significant commitment to Continuing Professional Development. Teachers have many opportunities to improve their teaching pedagogy and pedagogical subject knowledge and we expect them to make the most of these opportunities to ensure that the highest of standards are maintained.

BBEC is situated in a modern building.  It has well-equipped departments that are arranged in suites of rooms.   All teachers have a laptop, all classrooms are equipped with projectors and interactive whiteboards and all classrooms have access to student laptops.

All at BBEC are dedicated to raising the aspirations of our students and improving cultural capital through ambitious schemes of learning in all year groups and a varied offer of extra-curricular activities and opportunities.  We run trips and visits to places in the UK and across the world, our students take place in a myriad of competitions and our CEIAG programme is exemplary.  BBEC is unique in having five academies in Art and Design, STEM, Performing Arts, Sport and Enterprise, all of which aim to broaden the experiences and skills of our students.
