Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and successful leader to the combined role of Associate Executive Principal of The Skinners’ Kent Academy Multi Academy Trust and Principal of The Skinners’ Kent Academy. This opportunity has arisen as a result of promotion of our current Principal. Our Executive Principal, Sian Carr, has indicated that she will be retiring at the latest by the end of the academic year 2019/2020 and so we have decided to use this recruitment opportunity to provide a succession plan for the leadership of the Trust. The person appointed will be the Principal of SKA from September 2018, work alongside Sian Carr as an Associate Executive Principal for a maximum of 2 years, and assume the substantive combined role of Executive Principal/Principal SKA by September 2020.

This is an exciting opportunity for a high performing current or aspiring Principal/Headteacher. You will be working with an outstanding team of professionals across both The Skinners’ Kent Academy and Skinners’ Kent Primary School, all of whom are committed to the very highest standards and continuous improvement in the education we provide. We are looking for an inspirational individual who will lead the next very important and exciting phase of the Trust’s development. We wish to appoint someone who:

  • Has a passion for learning
  • Is highly motivated to pursue excellence at all times and build on our achievements to date
  • Has energy and ambition and is committed to ensuring the highest standards of teaching placing all young people at the heart of the learning process
  • Is a strong leader with the ability to motivate others to achieve high standards
  • Will build a strong team with a shared vision and ambition, for whom only the best is good enough

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is an 11-18 all ability academy with currently over 900 students and capacity for 1150 including a growing Sixth Form and possible future expansion. It opened in September 2009 as an academy sponsored by The Skinners’ School and Skinners’ Livery Company and moved into fantastic state of the art buildings in April 2013. It was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding in all aspects of its work in June 2016. In 2015 Skinners’ Kent Primary School was opened as a new 4-11 all ability primary academy having over 100 pupils currently in Years R-3. Although currently 1fe with capacity for 210 pupils it has been built to become a 2fe in the near future. The two schools form the The Skinners’ Kent Academy Multi Academy Trust. Across the two schools there is a continuum of curriculum and learning as we deliver the Primary, Middle Years and Career Related International Baccalaureate programmes.

We are ambitious for our future and we look forward to meeting candidates who are excited and inspired by the opportunities that this post offers.

Ofsted report

“The school motto of ‘pride in our success’ permeates through how pupils conduct themselves around the school. They strive to become well-rounded and respectful members of society. Pupils show kindness and consideration to each other because they want everyone to feel included. A strong pastoral provision in every key stage means that pupils feel well supported and have someone to go to if they need help. Should bullying happen, pupils know that staff will help them resolve issues quickly. Relationships between staff and pupils are nurturing and positive. This means that pupils feel safe and well looked after.
