Lymm High School is a, large high performing secondary school with exceptional resources including a swimming pool, leisure complex and residential centre in Anglesey.

We are looking to appoint up to three dedicated and professional Attendance & Pastoral Officers who will work alongside the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year and our Student Services teams to support young people and raise achievement by improving attendance and engagement. If successful, you will have a real opportunity to improve the life chances of young people.

The precise job descriptions will be finalised upon appointment, taking into account the specific skills, experiences and interests of the successful candidates. One post will certainly be in the 6th form team, working with post-16 students and families. In the main school, we anticipate one post being focused slightly more on the attendance monitoring and data side of things, with the second involving more time spent directly with students, families and external agencies. All three posts will have attendance as the primary focus, but successful candidates will be more than purely attendance officers; you will also be very much part of our Student Services teams, playing a broader role in providing pastoral care for all students.  If you have a strong preference for any of these areas of responsibility, please say so in your application, but please don’t feel it is essential to have such a preference.

Essential qualities/experience:

• Experience of the legal responsibilities placed upon schools to manage attendance

• Knowledge of current education attendance

• Knowledge of the legal framework related to school attendance

• Knowledge of the legislation relating to Education and Children

• Knowledge of how schools and education welfare function

• Excellent computer literacy skills required on multiple software applications (e.g.  Expert Level - SIMS, EXCEL, WORD and School Comms) to develop, produce, analyse and interpret various data formats for maximum impact on raising levels of attendance

• Ability to produce accurate, concise, written reports, etc

• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures

• Understanding of the issues which may cause poor school attendance that impact on children and life chances

• Ability to travel across Warrington and local surrounding areas on a regular basis to lead on attendance meetings

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.   The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including a Disclosure and Barring Service check (formally CRB).

Headteacher

Mr Gwyn Williams

Values and vision

Lymm High School aims for its students to: be successful and achieve their full potential; enjoy learning and become independent lifelong learners; become socially responsible citizens and members of the community; and become confident and capable individuals.

In order to achieve these aims, the school has three simple, underlying priorities for action: an uncompromising focus on high academic standards and excellent teaching and learning; encouraging participation in a wide-ranging programme of extra-curricular activities and opportunities to develop leadership skill; and promoting the importance of being decent, socially responsible members of the community

Ofsted report (February 2018)

“Pupils feel safe and secure in a school that is characterised by harmonious relationships. There are strong relationships between adults and pupils alike. Teachers have high hopes for pupils and expect the very best from them. This is a school where everyone is accepted for their individuality and uniqueness. It is a school that aims to ensure that inclusivity and scholastic ambition intertwine seamlessly.

Pupils are extremely positive about their learning experiences…. (they) also benefit from an extensive extra-curricular programme and strong spiritual, moral, social and cultural development (and) recognise that their teachers and other adults go ‘the extra mile’ for each of them. For these reasons, pupils reciprocate the care, guidance and support that they receive with extremely high standards of behaviour. They are an absolute credit to the school.”
