A stone’s throw from the heart of the UK’s City of Culture for 2017, overlooking one of the 20th Century’s most impressive construction projects and located at the heart of the burgeoning UK centre for renewables, Baysgarth School is now in the most exciting phase of its history.  In November 2016 we moved into our brand new state-of-the-art campus, which comprises Baysgarth School, the Humber Skills Centre and Baysgarth Sports Village.  The school has risen quickly to become one of the top performing schools in the region, consistently producing good outcomes for our students.  Our Year 7 cohort is full for new intake students and will be full for every year group from now on, which reflects the first class facilities we have on site as well as our fantastic students and staff who make the school a great place to learn.

Ofsted visited Baysgarth in October 2017 and concluded that we are a Good school which ‘has gone from strength to strength’ and is making ‘good progress on the journey to outstanding’.  In terms of student achievement, Ofsted reported that ‘Overall progress was in the top 10% nationally … [and] current pupils are making strong progress in all year groups.’  The DfE have concluded that ‘there is no better performing similar school within 75 miles of Baysgarth’ and it is our mission to recruit the most talented staff to continue this progress. 

The Head Teacher has many years’ experience of transforming outcomes in a number of secondary schools and at the heart of his vision is creating and developing close-knit teams, focused on collaboration, mutual support and risk-taking.  The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their commitment to the core principles and values of ambition, fairness, consistency, rigour and putting students first.  

The role of Attendance Officer is key in ensuring the school accurately tracks and records student attendance, producing detailed analysis for leaders to ensure that specific and bespoke support is given to those students whose attendance is not yet good. The Attendance Officer works in close collaboration with parents and students supporting them positively to raise their attendance. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for: 

• Dealing with all administration and support work required for pupil attendance, which is recorded using an electronic registration system and must be maintained on a daily basis

• Contacting pupils and parents to discuss attendance issues

• Conducting home visits in order to work with students and parents implementing actions plans

• Liaising with teachers and working with the Education Inclusion Team, Social services and other agencies

• Preparing reports and statistics for the school, the local authority and the DfE

The following qualifications and experience are essential:

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) Grade C or above

• ICT qualification 

• Admin qualification 

• Proficient in Microsoft Office packages

• Experience of working in a busy office environment

• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

Baysgarth School is currently an 11-16 comprehensive with approximately 800 pupils on roll.  The successful candidate will be expected to have pride, passion, positivity and vision and a desire to ensure the school has the highest possible reputation in the local community and beyond.

Over the past decade, Baysgarth has undergone a complete transformation. In summer 2014 our results were the second worst in the Local Authority and were on a three-year downward trend. Since then we have made significant and sustained improvements; in 2015 we were named the most improved school in North Lincolnshire and in 2016 we were in the top five schools in the Humber region, in the top two schools in North Lincolnshire and among the top 10% of schools nationally!  In 2019 our results propelled us into the top 4% of the country for the progress we make with our students.  Our aim to provide the highest quality education for local young people is always our top priority and we continue to strive to improve our offer. 

This transformation has come about for a number of reasons. Firstly, we raised our expectations of what our students can achieve and insisted on high standards of behaviour and appearance. Secondly, we focused our staff on the quality of learning taking place in the classroom. We came up with our own Baysgarth Learning Model that underpins our lessons and focused on promoting collaborative learning and Kagan techniques in the classroom. Thirdly, we focused on changing the culture of the school to ensure that we promoted strong teams, encouraged creativity and risk-taking, and praised success.

As a result our classrooms have become vibrant and creative places that are enjoyable for staff and students. We have a very strong teaching staff in all departments which means that any new colleague will be well supported and have the opportunity to continue to grow and develop professionally. 

Baysgarth continues to be a Good school that is ‘making good progress on the journey to outstanding’ according to Ofsted, who visited most recently in January 2023.  Inspectors described the school to “have created an inclusive community” where “pupils are well cared for”, “have access to a wide range of enrichment opportunities”, “benefit from high-quality teaching”, along with having access to “a range of experiences that go beyond the national curriculum…experiences that they may not otherwise have had”.  Leadership and governance is strong, with “a clear vision” and “high expectations”.  Baysgarth is consistently one of the top performing schools in the Humber region and it is our mission to recruit the most talented staff to cement our excellent reputation.

Baysgarth is ideally placed at the meeting point of four authorities – North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Hull and East Riding. Half of our teaching staff live on the North Bank and travel across the Humber Bridge every day, all of them commenting on the speed and ease of travel with Baysgarth being within 15 minutes of all the West Hull villages and only 20 minutes from Hull city centre.
