Autism Resource Base – Teacher required with History/Humanities specialism to start September 2021.
MPS/UPS - + 1 SEN point
The Autism Resource Base (ARB) for secondary mainstream students is a city wide funded provision, organised and run by Bitterne Park School. The ARB aims to provide specialist education for students in Southampton who have an Education, Health and Care Plan with a primary need of autism, and who would either find a mainstream school setting too challenging to cope with, or where individual needs would not be appropriately met in a special school.
In September 2021, the ARB will cater for 45 high functioning autistic students across KS3, KS4 and KS5. The provision aims to provide the opportunity for the students to reach their academic potential, whilst developing individual communication and social interaction skills.
We are looking for a secondary mainstream Humanities / History teacher who would like to specialise in teaching small groups (maximum 8) of high functioning students on the spectrum across the year groups. The ability to teach to GCSE level would be desirable. Thinking creatively, and managing and engaging students in a stimulating and challenging way, would be essential.
