Job overview

Laurence Jackson School

Guisborough

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to play a crucial part in our school improvement journey?

Behaviour Support Lead: Reflection Room and On Call

37 hours Term Time Only + 5 days

Grade E+ - £20,711 - £22,097 (actual)

Required from September 2019

Laurence Jackson School is embarking on the next stage of its development and is looking for a skilled and committed behaviour management expert to join our behaviour team. Although recently graded as ‘inadequate’, Laurence Jackson School is already demonstrating the capacity to improve and this is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to play a significant part in that improvement.

Our recent Ofsted report recognises that ‘Since the appointment of the new Headteacher, the actions necessary to make the required improvements have been accurately identified’ and the school is beginning to move in the right direction to deliver the improvements that are needed.

We are seeking to appoint a member of staff to lead our internal exclusion and room removal area, ‘Reflection’ and to play a key role within our on call behaviour support team. Key aspects of the role will involve maintaining good behaviour with the provision, managing referrals, monitoring trends with referrals and on calls and intervening with students to reduce referrals to support improved behaviour in school.

Laurence Jackson School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children/young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and an Enhanced DBS disclosure will be sought along with other relevant employment checks.

Application Process

Application forms and further details are available on the school’s website.

To arrange a visit please contact Mrs D Anderson, PA to the Headteacher - 01287-636361 - andersond@laurencejackson.org.

Applications should be emailed to andersond@laurencejackson.org.

Closing date for applications is noon on Monday 24 June 2019.

Interviews will take place on Monday 1 July.

A specialist sports college.

LJS was part of the North East batch of the PSBP new school project and we moved into our fantastic new building in September 2016.  Our brand new, state of the art school provides an outstanding learning environment which enables us to achieve our motto of ‘Improving the life chances of ALL LJS students’.

Our aim is to provide students who are: -

• Confident, reliable, adaptable and resilient
  • Well qualified and aware of what is required to compete in a global economy
  • Aware of their moral, social and community responsibility
  • Committed to healthy living and lifelong learning

Background Information

The School is an 11 to 16 Foundation School and Specialist Sports College which benefits from its delightful setting on the edge of the North Yorks Moors in the attractive market town of Guisborough (Borough of Redcar and Cleveland).

The school occupies an important place in the history of the town and continues to be a vibrant centre of the local community today. LJS recently celebrated its 50th Jubilee and it was clear from the extensive community participation in all activities that local people care for the school, staff and students. The school and community have significantly benefitted from designation as a Specialist Sports College and our excellent sports facilities act as the local Leisure Centre.

Although the town itself is relatively affluent, the school has a wide catchment area considerably beyond its stated admission zone and caters for a significant number of children who live in deprived wards elsewhere in the Local Authority. Consequently LJS is a fully comprehensive school with a diverse academic and socio-economic intake although it has a distinctly stable population and very few children from ethnic minority groups.

Overall, students are broadly average on entry with APS in line with the national average. However, almost 17% of students have some form of Special Educational Need, including 2.4% with a Statement and 27% qualifying for Pupil Premium funding. We provide specialist provision for a number of autistic students and approximately 10% of the student population are on the Most Able and Talented (MAT) register. Students have a positive attitude to learning and parents are predominantly supportive.

We feel that LJS offers an outstanding educational experience as reflected in our motto of ‘Improving Life Chances’ (of all children regardless of ability, background or circumstance) and encourage prospective students and staff to visit the school to judge for themselves.
