Job overview

To start: January 2022

We have an exciting opportunity for a HouseMaster or HouseMistress (HsM) to lead one of our Boarding and Day Houses at Shebbear College for around 60-65 pupils from January 2022. We are looking to appoint an experienced, outgoing and enthusiastic HouseMaster or HouseMistress to lead and work with a dedicated pastoral and academic team in Ruddle House, one of our four Houses in the Senior School.

As well as supporting the day pupils and boarders within school, the HouseMaster or HouseMistress at Shebbear College will represent the public face of Ruddle House and will be actively involved in the marketing of Shebbear College during open events, tours of prospective parents and other promotional activities.

Applicants will also be required to teach 32 lessons in any academic teaching discipline.  Family self-contained accommodation is available all year round.

Shebbear College is a small independent day and boarding school of around 300 pupils, for boys and girls aged from 3 – 18. Set in 85-acres of countryside between Dartmoor and Exmoor, it is an idyllic location in which to work. Class sizes are smaller than average throughout the school and we pride ourselves on knowing every pupil as an individual, recognising their potential and helping them to achieve their best, whatever that may be. This is what makes us special and stands us apart from other schools.

About Shebbear College

Founded in 1841 and steeped in history, Shebbear College is a thriving day and boarding school for girls and boys aged 4 to 18. Our 85-acre campus is situated in the beautiful Devon countryside, close to Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks and the fantastic surfing beaches of the North Cornwall coast.

Life at Shebbear is busy, filled with academic purpose, co-curricular activity, creative discovery and outdoor adventure - we believe in a broad, extensive education where pupils excel in all areas of the curriculum. Our talented staff and ambitious pupils together form a happy, caring community that challenges, innovates and develops a love of learning.

Our smaller size means that our staff know all of our pupils individually, enabling each child to discover their own strengths and find the confidence to shine. Every pupil is different and our team of passionate and committed teachers will find their spark and discover what motivates them, meaning that each pupil can develop their potential and feel empowered to be the very best they can be - academically, socially and morally.

Shebbear pupils consistently achieve excellent A-level, BTEC and GCSE results year-on-year.  We are proud to be a non-selective school and we believe that our pupils succeed because they are happy at school. The mix of our pupil-centered curriculum, our dedicated teachers, the individual attention and the extensive range of co-curricular opportunities on offer are key factors in this success.

At Shebbear College you will find confident, courageous, compassionate, creative, curious and courteous pupils who will welcome you with open arms!
