Boarding & Day Housemistress/ Master

Hallward’s House takes a mixture of boarding, day-boarding and day girls. The House motto ’Believe in yourself and the world is yours’ is something that the girls are encouraged to truly believe.

We require a Housemistress / Master to lead a busy boarding and day house and to manage the staffing, organisation and resources of the house in order to ensure the safety, wellbeing and personal development of the girls. A clear understanding of the pastoral needs of girls is essential, as is an awareness of the demands of a full time residential boarding post where flexibility, resilience and commitment are required.

The position arises owing to the retirement of the present incumbent, Mrs Karen Pickles. Potential candidates who would like to know more about the House may contact her for an informal conversation on 0117 315 7411.

Closing date for all applications: 5pm Wednesday 27th September 2017.

About Clifton College - Upper School

Clifton College leads the way as one of the best Public Boarding Schools in the country. We offer day places, flexi and full boarding places. Welcoming boys and girls from 2 to 18, Clifton becomes the school every pupil needs it to be, preparing them for life in the real world, not in a ‘bubble’. We are known for academic excellence, myriad opportunities, state of the art facilities, superb pastoral care and expert staff who deliver the very best learning and development. We provide a richly diverse and connected school environment, representative of the real world. Our pupils mature into individuals who are ambitious, open-minded and spirited.

Bristol businessman Dr John Percival, who championed the benefits of science, diversity and the education of women, founded Clifton College in 1862. The College has since fostered the talents of students including General Douglas Haig and Olympic hockey gold medallist Lily Owsley. The NSPCC had its first meeting on the school’s grounds.

Clifton College Upper School is housed in historical buildings, such as the Grade II-listed Percival Library, but it boasts state-of-the-art sporting facilities, including 24 tennis courts and an Olympic-standard hockey pitch.
