Job overview

6th FORM BOARDING HOUSE ASSISTANT

(Part Time)

Chigwell School is seeking to appoint a 6th Form Boarding House Assistant to join the community of 930 pupils and under 200 staff in the School founded by Archbishop Harsnett in 1629. The School is looking for a support staff member to assist in the boy’s boarding house at weekends. The post would suit a friendly caring person who would enjoy meeting students from all over the world and helping them settle into life at Chigwell. Experience of working with young people and/or bringing up a family is essential.

The School values very much the contribution of the boarders to the life of the Sixth Form as a whole. Our boarders live in family boarding houses in the school grounds. Each house has just seven or eight students, with a mix of different nationalities, cared for by a houseparent couple who live in the house with the students. It is easy to get to know people in our small friendly boarding houses.

Chigwell School is a leading co-educational school. We are located in the picturesque village of Chigwell just 10 miles from central London but on the edge of Epping Forest, and we enjoy over 100 acres of beautiful grounds.

Please visit the school website www.chigwell-school.org (Vacancies) for further details and an online or downloadable application form. Alternatively, please contact the HR department by telephone: 020 8501 6177 or E-mail: hr@chigwell-school.org

Closing date: 25th February 2018

Applications will be considered immediately upon receipt and candidates will be contacted by telephone or email to attend an interview if required. The School reserves the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date.

Chigwell School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening including checks with past employers and DBS.

Values and vision

Chigwell School’s motto is: “aut viam inveniam aut faciam”, a Latin phrase which means literally, “Either I shall find a way or I will make one". In-keeping with this, the school wants its students to develop a “determined, independent spirit, taking responsibility for themselves, their relationships with others, and the world around us”.

The school defines its mission as aiming to cultivate a learning community that aspires to excellence in all aspects of life, including: spiritual intellectual, moral, cultural, social and emotional aspects.

Chigwell School aims to provide a rounded education in the broadest sense, encouraging pupils to develop and discover talents and interests across and beyond the curriculum in order to help them to play a full part in the life of the school, and go on to make a positive contribution to the world.

The school hopes to be a community in which pupils develop a love of learning and are challenged to think critically, and with creative curiosity, for themselves.

ISI report

“Pupils’ personal development is excellent throughout the school. They are tolerant and appreciate non-material aspects of life. Pupils display maturity and they respect others, regardless of background or personal characteristics. They have highly developed cultural awareness and a developed understanding of British characteristics.”
