St Mary's Music School is seeking to appoint a Boarding House Manager, to be responsible for boarders' welfare and pastoral care. The post-holder will manage a team of 8 full-time and part-time boarding house staff, alongside the Headteacher, and with support from the Head of Guidance and School Bursar.
The successful candidate will work closely with all boarding house staff to develop consistent and effective pastoral care of all boarders. The Boarding House Manager will be responsible for ensuring the boarders' wellbeing and happiness is met and ensuring boarders remain safe and well looked after. In addition, the Manger will work with teaching and support staff, to share good practice and develop a school-wide approach to pastoral care.
The Boarding House Manager should be energetic, adaptable and sympathetic to the needs of young people and may have a background or training in pastoral care. All the children in the school are musicians, and the Manager should be sympathetic to their musical interests and endeavours.
The Boarding House Manager will be required to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or other approved regulatory body and should have suitable qualifications to complete this requirement.
The post will be full-time, permanent, and commences in April 2017. There is a competitive salary, generous holiday allowance and contributory pension scheme available.
St Mary's Music School is Scotland's specialist music school and the Choir School of St Mary's Cathedral; situated in a leafy campus in the heart of Edinburgh, it is co-educational, day and boarding. The School provides specialist music training and an impressive and stimulating academic education for boys and girls aged 9 - 19 showing special ability and potential in music.
There are around 80 full-time pupils including up to 38 boarders. Entry is by audition and rigorous assessment and pupils gain a place on the basis of musical ability and potential, regardless of personal circumstances. Government and school funding, up to 100%, is available through the Aided Places scheme to assist with the cost of tuition and boarding fees.
St Mary's Music School aims to offer the highest possible standard of education and musical training in an inspiring, inclusive and supportive environment, and all staff are expected to support pupils and encourage them to achieve of their best. Classes are small and examination results are consistently good, with a pass rate of 100% at Higher level exams in 2016.
