Job overview

Bede’s Senior School is looking to appoint an outstanding professional with a proven track record in pastoral care, and with strong personal skills, to become a member of our team of Boarding Housemasters and Housemistresses (Hms) in September 2023.

The successful candidate will be responsible for one of our two Girls Boarding Houses. You will play a key role in the pastoral leadership of the school alongside the other Hms. As an Hm you will be innovative, adaptable and an enabler. You will have high expectations of behaviour and courtesy, and you will be understanding of the challenges facing adolescents.

Your holistic responsibility for the pupils in your care will be vital as they grow and develop. It is your overview of their pastoral and academic lives that is vital in supporting their success. You will be led and be supported by a house community of two resident colleagues (your deputy and a tutor), non-resident tutors, and an outstanding matron team.

You will be someone who is committed to continued professional development, notably in boarding practice. The equivalent to the BSA Accredited Practitioner Level 2 or above is highly desirable.

Bede’s celebrates the importance of each child under our care being given the opportunity to enjoy a vibrant learning experience; we seek to develop a kind-hearted community in which we enhance the lives of those around us. The Hms within the school are key to making this happen and to allowing pupils to find joy in their pursuit of brilliance.
