Job overview

Energetic and enthusiastic house parent(s) sought for an excellent opportunity to run a family-like boarding house.

Over the past eight years we have experienced growing demand for international boarding provision and we have progressively extended our boarding house accordingly. We now have around 40 pupils in our boarding house and 10 in homestay.

You will be in charge of the day-to-day running and management of our boarding house and you will be supported by two cooks and a cleaner. You will have responsibility for the monitoring, welfare and motivation of our international students and implementing boarding house policies and procedures.

The ideal applicant will have experience of managing young students in a residential environment. Flexibility to respond to the unexpected, a sense of humour and enthusiasm are essential, as is the ability to engender respect from staff and students. Good organisational skills and a genuine interest in the welfare of young people are essential. The post includes accommodation, whilst working and when off duty, full board and utilities.

You report directly to the Principal.

Westbourne School History

Westbourne School was opened in 1895 at Ebenezer House in Westbourne Road. The present school dates its founding from 1896 when Miss Caroline Ferris became headmistress and named it: 'Westbourne House Preparatory School for Boys'. In 1901 the school moved to 13 Stanwell Road.

The adjoining building, 4 Hickman Road, was purchased in 1975 and the two buildings developed into Westbourne Senior School. Developments since 1975 have seen the school open a college for years 9-11, the acquisition of St. Alma's Girls' school at Victoria Road, after which the school became co-educational. The Victoria Road site now houses Westbourne Nursery and Junior school. Continuing improvements and the broadening of the school curriculum have seen an increase in pupil and staff numbers. Recent re-organisation in the school has led to a unification of identity into one school and the school continues to flourish, building on and adding to the achievements of the past
