As Boarding Pastoral Assistant you will be based in the boarding houses at all times and lead in the welfare of all boarding students throughout the duration of your shift period. You will work with the Head of Boarding or Assistant Head of Boarding to ensure the pastoral well-being of all boarding pupils within your boarding house across all years. This is a residential role during your shift period.
The Boarding Pastoral Assistant will care for the boarding students when they are unwell and enter into all aspects of their care and support in their daily lives. Interacting with them on both the fun side of life, as well as being their confidant, offering a support system in the more emotional aspects of their lives. The Boarding Pastoral Assistants are part of the pastoral team with the school and will liaise with the Pastoral Manager based at school site and the School Nurse.
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
To be based at the boarding houses throughout the duration of your shift period dealing with all pastoral matters arising.
To advise and update the Head of Boarding or Assistant Head of Boarding on all matters relating to the pupils in your care.
To offer care and support to all students regarding their physical or mental health.
To communicate regularly with the Pastoral Manager at school to update on mental health issues. Following up with appropriate written communication where necessary.
To communicate regularly with the School Nurse at school to update on all physical health issues. Following up with appropriate written communication where necessary.
To support pupils, at a time and place which is conducive to good communication, concerning any emotional, academic, social or behavioural problems they may have; if appropriate to inform the Head of Boarding or the DSL if any referral to outside agencies is required; to fulfil the requirements of the school’s policy on child protection and safeguarding.
Ensure a thorough handover at the start and end of the shift period with the alternative Boarding Pastoral Assistant within your boarding house.
