Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic and caring person who has the ability to provide administrative and supervisory assistance to our boarding house. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Boarding in providing pastoral support to the girls within the Boarding House. The candidate will have strong communication skills and a demonstrated understanding of the needs of adolescent girls.

The position is a permanent full-time position commencing as soon as we have found the right candidate. This is a live-in position and accommodation within the Boarding House is provided. The position is primarily evening and weekend work. The candidate will be required to work part of every alternate weekend.

The key responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):

  • Ensure all new boarders are orientated and boarders are well supported;
  • Foster harmonious community living in a homely environment;
  • Maintain accurate roll marking and record keeping requirements;
  • Monitor and be responsive to boarders movements at all times;
  • Assist boarders in all facets of school life with compassion and consistency;
  • Provide prep support and seek additional assistance for boarders when necessary;
  • Monitor individual health and wellbeing of boarders collaborating with the school nurse and/or Director of Boarding to ensure ultimate support for boarders is provided;
  • Assist boarders in creating a link between boarding and day school objectives;
  • Maintain an open approach to concerns and ensure that boarders feel they have been heard and that their concerns will be acted upon;
  • Monitor and encourage academic performance during prep liaising with academic staff when required;
  • Assist with the coordination and organisation of weekend activities;
  • Embrace a leadership role and encourage girls to manage their responsibilities, develop life skills and promote individual self esteem;
  • Provide guidance and supervision of all boarding students;
  • Undertake administrative functions to support the Director of Boarding;
  • Support the School in providing the spiritual, academic, cultural, emotional and physical needs of the students in the boarding house, enabling them to growth and thrive; and
  • Take all reasonable steps to ensure the well-being of the students;

The be successful and thrive in the role, you will:

  • Hold a minimum 2 years' experience working in a boarding house or similar environment working with adolescent children;
  • Possess strong knowledge relevant to contemporary adolescents both from a regulatory and well-being framework;
  • Possess high levels of initiative and interpersonal skills;
  • Have the ability to organise others in a positive and effective manner;
  • Possess the ability to resolve conflict, solve problems, conduct difficult negotiations and provide constructive advice and assistance;
  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate and Australian Driver's licence;
  • Possess strong communication skills;
  • Be highly efficient, being able to manage competing tasks and time effectively;
  • Have the ability to build rapport and relationships with staff and students;
  • Hold a background in education or nursing (highly desirable but not essential);
  • Support the co-curricular and pastoral care programs at the school;
  • Actively support the ethos of this Anglican Independent School; and
  • Have a commitment to ongoing professional learning.

Kambala is an all-girls, non-selective, Anglican, independent, all-through day and boarding school in New South Wales, serving students from the age of 4-18. The all-through school is situated in Rose Bay, and overlooks the Sydney Harbour. 

Kambala was founded in 1997. The current principal has been there since 2014. It is divided into three sites: the school’s early learning centre, a primary school and a secondary school. The school places a huge importance on IT skills, seeing all students equipped with their own iPad from primary school. It is vital to the all-through school that teachers benefit from professional training opportunities in a welcoming and stimulating working environment.

Kambala boasts a wide range of modern learning facilities across its three campuses, including multi-purpose halls, multiple play areas, a 25-metre swimming pool, a large, well-stocked library, extensive outdoor grounds, science laboratories, photography lighting rooms and sports courts.

Curriculum

The all-through school offers a broad and varied curriculum, including an extensive range of languages - French, Japanese, Latin or Mandarin. In secondary school, pupils work to study towards the International Baccalaureate (IB). Extracurricular activities are available for students to get involved in, ranging from sports to a school choir. There is also private tutoring for students requiring additional help.
