An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Gardener to join the Botany Manager whose role is to renovate and maintain the school’s historic Botany Garden, woodlands, and ponds. 

Working in collaboration with the Grounds team you will demonstrate the motivation, organisation and commitment required to maintain and improve the beautiful botany gardens and ponds.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Responsible for garden maintenance as directed by the Botany Manager.
  • Support the Botany Manager with renovating the ponds and botany beds.
  • Weeding, watering, feeding and plant care
  • Pruning roses, fruit and climbers
  • Training and staking of plants
  •  Planting
  • Sowing seeds and taking cuttings
  • Composting as much garden waste as possible
  •  Hedge maintenance
  • Any other general garden maintenance
  • Helping others with their areas where needed
  • Produce cut flowers for displays at various school events.
  • Assistant with the kitchen waste composting strategy
  • Supporting the Botany Gardens Manager to prepare for practical teaching sessions in the gardens
  • Increase the biodiversity of the school site and encourage wildlife through planting and landscaping of the botany gardens.
  • Identification and control of pests and diseases within an integrated pest management plan.
  •  Clearance of Leaves and general garden keeping.
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships across the school.
  • Commitment to developing yourself within your role – undergoing training where necessary.
  • Ensuring you comply with all relevant Health and Safety and Environment (HSE) practices and procedures, as outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.
  • Ensuring you and others around team abide by all schools policies and procedures – reporting incidents when necessary.
  • Proactively promoting and maintaining high standards across the school – taking initiative to resolve and/or draw attention to areas that don’t meet required standards or any issues that arise.
