The Post

Brent is looking to appoint a new Deputy Headteacher to be the operational lead for its Virtual School and its committed team. Experience in working with looked after children is an advantage but more important is your proven ability to effect sustainable improvement in outcomes.

In the post, supported by the Headteacher of Brent Virtual School, you will:

  • be responsible for the day-to-day performance of children and young people in care in educational settings both within the borough and outside the local area
  • support, challenge and guide the work of the advisory teachers in the virtual school
  • offer direct support to post-16 LAC
  • offer guidance and support to those in the care of other authorities who are placed in Brent schools or other educational settings
  • work with social workers, foster carers and designated teachers in schools to ensure the best possible educational outcomes for young people.

The Person

To be successful in the post you will:

  • have experience of working in a virtual school and an understanding of the complex issues facing children in care and care leavers and how these impact on their learning needs and academic attainment.
  • have a proven track record of leading and raising standards in an education setting and understand the need not just to provide an outstanding service, but to demonstrate improved outcomes for LAC.
