Due to the retirement of the current Bursar after many years of excellent service, we are now looking for an outstanding and experienced Bursar to oversee the needs of a fast-paced, high-achieving 2-11 Preparatory School. 

The position of Bursar is the most senior non-teaching role in the school, a member of the Senior Leadership of the School reporting directly to the Principal.    This is a varied role that has responsibility of the strategic management of the school covering the following areas: 

• Finance including production of budgets and forecasts 

• Strategic monitoring 

• Management & IT    

• HR (including HR compliance)

• Buildings and Site  

As Bursar, you will be responsible for the conduct of the financial affairs, business management and material state of the premises and to the Principal for day-to-day administration, as well as overseeing the effective running of the Administrative team of the school to ensure that school needs are met. 

Essential criteria for this role:

• Certificate of School Business Management 

• Thorough knowledge of accounting principals 

• Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Word and Excel

• Thorough knowledge of financial software packages

• Working knowledge of ISI regulations and guidance relating to safeguarding, recruitment, SCR, record keeping 

• General understanding of procurement risk assessment and health & safety 

Desirable Criteria:  

• AAT qualified or working towards a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA 

• Excellent knowledge of working in a school finance environment
