Job overview
Bursar and Clerk to the Governors
Full-time, year round role with some weekend and evenings required.
This role is to start during the Summer Term 2021.
The Downs Preparatory School is a successful co-educational, independent, day school for pupils aged 4 to 13 years. Situated 5 miles from Bristol, Clevedon and Portishead, the School and its thriving Nursery, accommodating children from 6 months to pre-school, are set within 60 acres of glorious parkland.
The Governors invite applications for the post of Bursar who is also the Clerk to the Governors. The Downs is a prestigious school with both a successful academic and healthy financial record. The Governors and Headteacher are keen to collaborate and work alongside the new Bursar to take this school into its next phase of development.
Reporting to the Headteacher, the Bursar is a critical member of the Senior Leadership Team. The post holder will be expected to manage the financial, commercial and business aspects of both the School and its Nursery, as well as holding key responsibilities for health and safety and areas of legal compliance and relationships with the wider community.
The successful candidate will have a proven leadership ability, be a strategic thinker and will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Exceptional financial acumen and robust commercial judgement will be essential.
Previous experience in a similar role and within the Independent School sector would be an advantage but applications are encouraged from candidates with commercial, charitable and other sector backgrounds.
