Job overview

Reports to: Headteacher, with a dotted line report to the West London Free School Academy Trust’s Finance Director

The Kensington Primary Academy, which is a one form entry school opening in September 2016, is seeking a highly-organised and dynamic Business and Finance Officer to help ensure this new school operates efficiently and makes the best use of its resources.

Our school is inclusive, but with high academic standards. We take children from all backgrounds and give them the knowledge, skills and confidence to flourish in secondary school and beyond. Our core belief is that every child is entitled to a classical liberal education, regardless of background and we provide this with an innovative, knowledge-based curriculum.

You will contribute to the strategic direction of the school and take responsibility for its operational management as part of the school’s Senior Leadership Team. Leading the support staff team, you will have responsibility for the day-to-day effective management of human resources (HR), site and premises services, catering and parental engagement. Your role will include management of the finances, including providing monthly management accounts, preparing and monitoring budgets, developing and maintaining financial procedures and financial systems, liaising with the auditors and reporting to the finance committee of the school’s Local Governing Body. Ideally, you will have a professional accounting qualification.

Key to this role will be your previous experience of providing high level administrative support, budgetary management and leading and motivating a team. You will have substantial knowledge of management practice and legislation relating to finance, payroll and pensions and a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding and safer recruitment. Proven experience and understanding of school/public sector finance and resource management systems will be advantageous, particularly in relation to the financial obligations of academies. Knowledge of SIMS, Xero and ParentPay are desirable but not essential. Above all, you will have a relentless drive for excellence and a positive attitude to making our school site a warm and friendly environment for visitors, staff and pupils.
