Position Description

The Business Manager is responsible for the efficient management of the school’s business functions including administration, asset management, procurement, finance and work health and safety. Reporting to the Principal, the Business Manager works to support the Board to execute the School’s strategic directions and initiatives. This role may be full or part-time depending on the needs of the successful applicant.

The Business Manager is responsible for but not limited to:

  • Prepare annual budget, financial forecasts and manage cash flow ongoing.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, forecast and other management reports, attend Board meetings as required.
  • Preparation of all the supporting documentation for financial audit and directly responding to auditors' queries.
  • Cash flow management, fixed asset register maintenance, grant income management, FBT, GST, PAYG, reconciliation of all bank accounts and journal ledgers, processing creditor invoices, debtor management, invoicing and receipts, processing payroll.


The Successful Applicant will have:

  • Experience as a Business Manager of a school or a comparable role in another industry.
  • Outstanding communication and relationship building skills with staff, parents,suppliers and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee and manage the financial and business affairs of the school. Ensuring the school is compliant with legislative and funding requirements.
  • Manage the School's buildings, grounds and equipment, including risk management.
  • Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the Early Childhood sector either in preschool or day care environment, would be advantageous.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, management, or related field
  • Strong capabilities with database and information systems software
  • Previous data analysis experience
  • Proven ability with financial and budgetary processes
  • Prior industry experience and up-to-date knowledge of relevant trends

About Montessori East Pre-School and Primary School

Montessori East Primary and Pre School is an independent, co-educational school educating 3-12 year olds. Situated in Bondi, an eastern suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, the school provides education in multi-age classrooms of 3 to 6 year olds, 6 to 9 years and 9 to 12 years.

Montessori East was established in 1978 and is the only Montessori educational facility in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs. It began as a pre-school and has been on its present site since 2001. It is one of over 150 Montessori schools in Australia that follow a student-centered and teacher-facilitated education model.

Montessori East provides a “prepared environment” and has large, well-equipped classrooms for its students. It also has a dedicated library space, full kitchen facilities and an art room. Outdoor areas are available to preschool and primary school students, with each class having its own vegetable garden.

Curriculum

Montessori East follows the Montessori National Curriculum which is linked to all outcomes from the NSW Board of Studies Syllabus. The core curriculum is offered through individualised learning programmes. Students also experience a variety of other activities such as swimming, surfing, playball, dance, drama, yoga, camping experiences, and foreign language.
