Job overview

We are looking for a Business Manager to work for the holding company of which an independent school, alternative provision, and other related services lie under.

The Business Manager will be required from an office in Corbridge with the occasional requirement to work from home. They will be working very closely with the company Director/Proprietor, who is currently working part time due to maternity. 

The role is heavily administrative, but also involves regular face to face quality assurance on-site. The Business Manager will be required to liaise with, carry out audits, and visit various educational sites and bases in the North East and potentially beyond in line with the needs of the businesses. Access to own vehicle is essential due to the location of the offices.

The role is a vast and varied role encompassing many different areas of business; from marketing to finance, recruitment to quality assurance. A proactive and professional personality is of the utmost importance as the Business Manager will be representing the business owner and businesses at all times within the scope of their role.

We are looking for an individual who has:

- A personable, friendly, and exceptionally proactive personality

- A confident phone manner and an ability to construct emails and communicate via email in a professional fashion

- Demonstrable professionalism and courtesy at all times

- A calm and confident demeanour and have demonstrable experience of communicating professionally within education and/or business as they will be required to attend meetings both in support of and in place of the business owner on occasion

The individual must:

- Be able to act quickly and efficiently to ensure all quality assurance processes in relation to the businesses are adhered to at all times

- Stay on top of aspects of auditing, finances, and recruitment among other things as requested by the Director

- Have basic experience in marketing, sales, and social media or be willing to undertake training. The role will involve an element of marketing.

Experience of education and childcare is preferable but not essential, but a clear interest and understanding of these sectors is important due to the nature of the businesses you will be  representing.


Responsibilities

Safeguarding

To follow policies and other guidance relating to safeguarding and promotion of wellbeing of children and young people, in particular Keeping Children Safe in Education and School/Centre policies.

GENERAL

● Calendar, meeting, and task management

● Scheduling and follow up on tasks and requested reservations or bookings

● Monitoring of and management of recruitment processes, including liaising with other business entities where appropriate and managing recruitment when required

● Managing staff induction and probationary processes including training

● Participation in board/ business steering groups as a representative of the business owner

● Liaison with HR and health and safety when required within the scope of the business

● Management of buildings and contracts along with associated admin

● Management of Companies House compliance

● Management of general business compliance (insurances, health and safety, etc)


QUALITY ASSURANCE

● Carrying out quality assurance and quality control across the businesses- including delegating and prompting audits to ensure all are completed prior to given deadlines, and ensuring any outcomes are acted upon swiftly

● Quality control against Independent School Standards compliance, including leading and/or participating in in-house inspections when required

● Monitoring of reporting and auditing provided from the business entities


FINANCE

● Liaison with accountant / HMRC for finance-related admin

● Management of VAT records and submissions in liaison with accountant

● Management of petty cash records provided from business entities


MARKETING

● Creating and managing small online social media campaigns

● Facebook/ Instagram/ Linkedin maintenance and updates

● Contacting potential clients and leads for marketing purposes

● Basic website maintenance and updates


This list is not exhaustive and may include any other duties within the scope of this role. The Business Manager will be provided with access to an online and shared performance software, allowing easy communication and monitoring of required tasks against calendars.

Safeguarding is the highest priority, and we follow Safer Recruitment procedure. All staff must undergo an enhanced DBS.

Working hours:  Part time, 20 hours per week (4 hours per day), term-time (39 weeks) + 5 days during school holidays. Hours of work between 8-4. Salary £24,000/year pro rata.
