Job overview

Dunottar is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11-18 set in extensive grounds of 15 acres on the outskirts of Reigate. Under the Headship of Mark Tottman, the school is on a very exciting journey having recently won the prestigious Education Business Award for the ‘Outstanding Progress – UK Independent Schools’ category 2019. Dunottar is experiencing fast growth in pupil numbers and to accommodate this expansion, we have recently completed a £6.6 million capital development programme to build a new Sixth Form Centre and Assembly Hall/Performing Arts Centre.

Dunottar is a great place to work, with a team of highly professional and committed teachers and support staff.  We incorporate best practice from independent schools and academies right across the United Learning Group, whilst retaining our unique, friendly ethos in Reigate where pupils are nurtured to make significant personal progress at the same time as achieving excellent academic results.  United Learning is an outstanding organisation which prides itself on providing a working and learning environment which encourages ‘the best in everyone’.  You will join a network of staff belonging to 90 other schools, with opportunities to engage with fellow professionals which far exceed what one school could achieve on its own.  Personal development and career opportunities are excellent. They will also play an active role in the extensive and varied co-curricular program, both during the working week and some weekends.

 Overview

We are looking to employ a well-qualified and inspirational teacher on a full-time basis for September 2022 (or earlier if the successful candidate is able to join during the current academic year).  The post could suit an NQT or experienced teacher alike who desires to teach a range of abilities in a school with motivated and engaged pupils in small classes. For an experienced teacher there may be option for possible early career progression.  We welcome applications from candidates who would be excited to be involved in developing our new GCSE offering which we launched in September 2021 and continuing to raise the profile of the department in the School.

The Department

Business and Economics is a small but energetic and innovative department which currently led by an experienced HoD. The advertised position has arisen as the result of high demand for the Business GCSE which we have newly launched as an option this year.  We already have a well-established A-Level which remains popular.

At Dunottar our Business GCSE follows the AQA specification. At A level we offer the Edexcel Economics B course allowing us to retain the opportunity of delivering a joint Business and Economics A-Level.  This is an enjoyable, engaging and inspiring A-Level course which reflects the demands of a modern, dynamic business environment alongside nurturing an understanding of the economy in which such businesses operate. Our Schemes of Work allow for flexibility with the expectation that staff will tailor their teaching, ensuring that all pupils make the best possible progress. Our A-Level students move on to a wide range of destinations from studying Economics as a Degree to more applied courses at university such as management and a variety of apprenticeships.

The Business & Economics department makes a wide contribution to school life including running enterprise activities, supporting the financial aspects of PSHE delivery and our involvement in co-curricular clubs. The department has organised business-based careers evenings and lectures for students and parents, as well as trips to the USA.  The successful candidate will share our passion for developing the work of the department.  They will also play an active role in the extensive and varied co-curricular programme at the school, both during the working week and some weekends.

This is an exciting time to join the Business and Economics Department at Dunottar.  Culturally, Dunottar is always open to ideas and innovation, and we are seeking someone who will help shape the future profile of this department in our School.  The department is friendly, welcoming and supportive: staff are keen to share resources and embrace new ideas, aspiring to keep their teaching fresh and exciting. The department aims to stretch and challenge every student to realise their potential. We are therefore looking for a dynamic, outstanding Teacher of Business and Economics.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis and we reserve the right to recruit before the deadline.
