Business Teaching Post

The Academy International School has been expanding for the last two years and in September 2023 will have completed its introduction of two form entries in all year groups. We are looking for qualified teachers to join our Humanities Department.

The successful candidate will join our enthusiastic Humanities Department. The post will be teaching IGCSE Business Studies to students in Key Stage 4 and Business Management to our IB Diploma Programme students, as well as teaching other humanities subjects in those levels.

Legal permission to work in Spain is desirable.

Job description (further details will be sent to short listed candidates) 

  • Planning, teaching and class management.  
  • Monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting.  
  • Curriculum development.  
  • Pastoral care.  
  • Taking part in extra curricular activities such as cross curricular weeks and sports days.  
  • Continued professional development.

Salary and Package The salaries at school all follow the Spanish pay scales. The pay increases when there is an increase announced across Spain. 

Our package includes:   

  • Salary according to the Spanish national guidelines.  
  • Permanent contract.  
  • Three course school lunch each day.  
  • National health insurance, and private health insurance for work related issues.  
  • Administrative support with the legal documentation such as paperwork related to becoming a resident in Spain, registering with a doctor, opening a bank account.  
  • Support and advice on finding accommodation.

Our School Day : All teachers start at 8:45 and finish at 16:15. On Mondays we have staff meetings until 17:00.

Person Specification

We are looking for a qualified, experienced and enthusiastic teacher to join our team. Someone who wants to be part of a supportive team with a child centred approach to teaching and learning. Experience teaching at IBDP level is an advantage but not essential. Strong IT skills are necessary (including technology in the classroom, learning platforms such as Firefly, Managebac and management systems such as ISAMS). Eligible to work in the EU is desirable.

About The Academy International School

The Academy International School is a co-educational independent all-through school for students aged 2-19. It is based in Mallorca in Spain.

The school was opened in 1985 with 25 children and two teachers. Now, it has about 490 pupils. Students can continue their education up to IGCSE examination level and then move to our sixth form International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

We are the only International British School in Mallorca that offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The programme complements our curriculum from Nursery to Year 11 and provides the students with a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.

At our Primary School we are very lucky to have much outdoor space with a school garden, orchard, paddock for our horses, tennis court, swimming pool and football pitches.

Our new secondary site is purpose built for young adults creating the optimum learning environment and providing the ideal stepping stone to university and adult life. We have collaborative learning spaces, the latest technology as tools for teaching and learning, state of the art science labs, an outdoor amphitheatre, padel tennis courts, swimming pools and extensive sports facilities.

The Academy International School has been inspected by the Cambridge University Examination Board and is a recognised examination centre. The school is also a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain and is inspected regularly both by British inspectors and inspectors from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science.  After several years of hard work preparing for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme we are a certified IB World School.

The student body is about 50% Spanish, 20% British, 10% Scandinavian and the other 20% represent another 30 nationalities.

The teaching staff is 90% British.
