Nelson and Colne College Group is a beacon for educational excellence, made up of a family of colleges – Nelson & Colne College, Lancashire Adult Learning & Accrington & Rossendale College. The Exciting Role 

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Teacher of Business to join their Business Studies Team on a full time, permanent basis starting from August 2022. The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching BTEC Business and / or A Level Business.

The successful candidate will be motivated and driven to develop their professional practice within an Ofsted rated ‘Outstanding’ group of colleges, focused on student progress and supporting students into high quality educational and work-based destinations.

We welcome applications from teachers at all stages of their career. Trainee teachers will also be considered for this role, on the basis that they complete a recognised teaching qualification within three years of appointment. The role would include completion of the PGCE with our in-house Higher Education provision, and on-the-job support from a highly experienced and effective business teaching team. 

The successful candidate will be primarily based at Nelson & Colne College but may be required to travel across sites.


What You Will Be Doing:

- Teach BTEC and/or A Level Business delivering effective learning for students

- Be up to date, plan and prepare and high-quality teaching as required by your Line Manager to the appropriate number of hours (810 hrs per annum)

- Develop and share resources for the course/subject including maintaining effective links across College for resources

- To act as a personal tutor for a group across their programme as a whole

- Deliver enrichment and enhancement activities

- Maintain comprehensive, up to date, student/course/subject records and provide information, as requested


What We Are Looking For:

- A degree in a relevant subject area or appropriate professional qualification

- A recognised teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve this within three years of appointment

- A higher degree or advanced qualification (desirable) 

- Successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area

- Knowledge of and proven ability to deliver the curriculum successfully

- Demonstrate a student-centred approach to teaching and learning

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
