Job overview

This is a new role and is key to our ambition to develop exciting work-related learning opportunities at the Pavilion School.

The Pavilion is new provision which forms part of The Garden School and is on a separate, green site in a pleasant residential area in Upper Clapton, Hackney. 

The school will provide a specialist curriculum for Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 autistic students with learning difficulties. The focus is on preparation for adulthood with exciting work-related and other learning opportunities. The first cohort of students started to attend in February 2022.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of the Catering and Hospitality programme at The Pavilion including The Gardenia café in order to create a welcoming and professional environment while continually enhancing the quality of learning, achievement and employability of students. The post involves responsibility for the instruction, management and training of a small group of older autistic students who have learning difficulties. This may involve leading and managing other support staff.  It will involve responsibility for managing stock control, orders, deliveries and finance and for managing Health and Safety within the Café and other hospitality spaces while maintaining high standards of hygiene and ensuring food safety guidelines and laws are adhered to.

We are interested in hearing from candidates with:

• Experience of Catering and Hospitality projects and experience of working with autistic students.

• A willingness to undertake further training to manage the café effectively and reach the required standards.

The successful candidate will possess:

• A good knowledge of and commitment to working in a café-competent barista skill, food preparation, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety. 

• The ability to manage stock control, orders, deliveries and finances.

• The ability to support, teach and mentor autistic young people and the willingness to take on training to develop the appropriate teaching skills.

• The ability to collaborate and work as part of a team.
