Job overview

Great Barr is a remarkable opportunity for an exceptional candidate to successfully deliver innovative, entrepreneurial, education strategy.

Our 1750 students deserve the very best: nothing else will do.

This is not a role for the faint hearted. The Shaw Education Trust is determined that this Campus based approach to learning will break new ground, revolutionise educational opportunities and transform the lives of this community.

In December 2016 the school joined Shaw Education Trust. If you are successful you will be joining a Trust which believes that every child should have the opportunity to be successful regardless of their starting point; and pledges an unswerving commitment to improve, accelerate and enable ambitious life goals amongst all young people.

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, fiercely ambitious leader, who shares our passion; who has the highest expectations; and the determination and skill to secure the long-term success of our wonderful community.

We are very ambitious for our students and our staff and require an inspirational, experienced and successful leader to build on the school’s many strengths, drive up standards and lead the next phenomenally exciting phase of its development.

This post would suit an experienced Headteacher/Principal looking extend their existing success into a whole new paradigm. The successful candidate will benefit from a wealth of support from within our family of schools and Trust colleagues.

Our Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Therefore, all appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure and Section 128 check.

For a confidential discussion about the role, to arrange a visit or to make an application, please contact Chris Gartner at Hays Leadership Appointments on 07595 646 645 or via email to chris.gartner@hays.com

Interview dates: Wednesday 29th of January and Thursday 30th of January

About Us:

Fortis Academy is sponsored by Shaw Education Trust. We are based in north Birmingham and have a large, diverse and vibrant community of students. We have a well-established and very successful Sixth Form.

We pride ourselves on our strong ethos which values inclusion, good citizenship, mutual respect and collaboration.  We aim to provide a wide range of stimulating opportunities to expand our students’ horizons within an environment in which they feel safe and well cared for and in which they can achieve their best, develop self-confidence and flourish as individuals.  We encourage the active participation of parents/carers in their children’s education; only when the school, the child and parents/carers are working together will children excel.

Our large and established Sixth Form, which is rated as ‘Good’ by OFSTED, specialises in providing high quality Level 3 qualifications and Level 3 ‘applied general’ qualifications.  Year on year we are getting more students into the top Russell Group universities and are significantly exceeding the national average in doing so.  The breadth of subjects offered provides both our students and our staff with great development opportunities.

Our students are drawn from a diverse community and, as OFSTED have noted, there is “comfortable cohesion” and our students “work together and play together well.”  Visitors frequently comment on the pleasant, lively and friendly atmosphere in the school and the great sense of energy and purpose among staff and students.

The school has strong, mutually beneficial links with local schools, universities, employers and community organisations.

Working at Fortis:

We are very committed to the continuous professional development of our staff, and have worked hard to embed sophisticated, innovative strategies to improve teaching and pupil outcomes across the school.  Many of our staff have chosen to develop their careers at the school or have returned to more senior roles after a period working in other schools.

We have a highly developed and well established programme for providing NQT’s with the necessary support to achieve a successful and smooth first year in their new careers.  It has been described as ‘an exemplar of good practice’ and is frequently praised by our partner teacher training institutions.  Fortis Academy is an excellent place to build a career.
