Job overview

About the role:  Leigh Academies Trust has a rare opportunity for an experienced and suitably qualified Capital Projects and Maintenance Manager to join us in this senior position working across our academies based in Kent and South-East London.  The overarching purpose of this role is to lead on the maintenance and delivery of small and medium value capital works programmes across the LAT portfolio.  If you’re keen to join a highly successful multi-academy trust and be part of a well-established Central Services Business Team, we’d like to hear from you.  Key areas of responsibility include the following:

Capital works

Premises management and development

FM Contract management

Team management and technical support

Project and contract management experience is essential for this position, as well as health, safety and regulatory compliance in this field.  We have scope to support and develop our successful candidate through further professional development.  For details of the specific duties please consult the Job Description and Person Specification by clicking here.  The base location is at Strood Academy in Rochester, Kent and as the position requires travel between sites, our successful candidate will be able to drive and have access to their own vehicle.  Rest assured that our academies are based between Greenwich and Maidstone so travel between all sites is reasonable. Mileage can be claimed in accordance with the LAT Expenses Policy.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  Leigh Academies Trust currently consists of 23 academies across the South-East which includes the recent merger with The Williamson Trust, and we have a further 3 academies in pre-opening phase. It is responsible for the education of over 15,000 pupils from ages 3 to 19 and seeks excellence in all that it does. Its mission is to shape the lives of young people for the better and in doing so, transform the communities in which they live. Its academies have benefited from over £100m of capital investment and are privileged to employ over 2,500 highly talented staff between them.  For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages.

Do you like the sound of the role but not sure if the education sector is for you?  The majority of our Head Office employees have had private sector careers before joining Leigh Academies Trust and have found the following when joining the education world;

"I have thoroughly enjoyed moving from the private sector to a multi-academy trust almost three years ago. The LAT Team work fantastically for the benefit of over 15,000 students and everyone has a unique and varied background. I get great satisfaction knowing the work I do is keeping students safe and providing good quality buildings for staff and students to occupy.  There’s more to education than meets the eye.” (Central Business Team Employee)

“We operate like a normal business within Head Office and the best part about it is that all of our hard work and efforts are for the direct benefit of our 15,000+ students, not for our shareholders’ pockets.  They say working in education is rewarding and you don’t have to be a teacher to experience that! The relationships you build with colleagues in this sector is like no other and I’ve found them to be the most enduring in my career.”  (Central HR Team Employee)

"The key element of my role that I find so rewarding is the impact we all have on students’ lives on a daily basis – my contribution affects the students indirectly but I still get to see how our cost-saving strategies benefit them.  I haven’t had the opportunity to work with such passionate, driven and dedicated teams across all levels in a business before joining LAT which is something I now thrive on.  Collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, and our ethos and vision are genuine." (Central Finance Team Employee)

What are we looking for in you?  As a Trust, we seek to recruit talented individuals that can not only help to build the success of our academies but also people that are engaging and passionate about what they do.  We are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

About Leigh Academies Trust

Leigh Academies Trust is one of the country’s largest and most-established multi-academy trusts operating across Kent, Medway and South East London. It contains primary, secondary and special academies and is highly inclusive and successful. Our mission is to deliver “education for a better world” by ensuring that young people in our academies have an excellent start in life regardless of their background or ability.

We are a non-profit making charitable company, based in Strood, Medway. The Trust exists to support and assist schools to build upon their existing strengths and to help them achieve rapid educational transformation. It has significant experience in running schools, and today includes both sponsored academies and schools which have chosen to convert to academy status.

The Trust was formed in 2008 with the linking of the Leigh Technology Academy and Longfield Academy under one governing body. Today, we encompass more than 20,000 students between the ages of 2 months and 19 in over 30 primary, secondary and special academies including one all-through academy and one grammar school.

In addition to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all of our children, aged from 2 months to 19 years, and their families, we are proud to provide many opportunities for lifelong learning.  These are delivered through the organisations under our umbrella: Thames Gateway Teaching School Hub, LAT Apprenticeships and Kent and Medway Training (KMT), which delivers routes into teaching. Our future plans are found in our Vision 2030 document available on our website.
