Shrewsbury School is seeking to appoint a Careers Advisor to develop and deliver a comprehensive careers programme aimed at helping current pupils and Old Salopians manage the transition into their working lives.
The School and its association of former pupils, The Salopian Club, have already invested significantly in improving the careers support offered, through the development of professional networks amongst Old Salopians and parents, hosting a careers fair and careers evenings at the School, and providing careers advice and work placements.
The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator who is quickly able to grasp the dynamic and character of Shrewsbury School as well as the wider Salopian community and bring this into effective conjunction with the shifting landscape of employment and professional development. They will have the ability to generate and maintain links with industrial and commercial enterprises on a national and international scale and will also play a fundamental role in managing the expectations and understanding of pupils, parents and Old Salopians alike.
Ideally you will have:
- Experience of the business or professional world, with a possible background in selection, interviewing and recruitment
- Excellent organisational, time management and influencing skills
- Extensive experience of working with a range of learners, in ways which have raised aspirations, motivation and behaviour and a strong commitment to Shrewsbury Schools’ Ethos
- Ability to plan and deliver large scale successful events requiring extensive liaison with internal and external key stakeholders.
This is a full-time, term-time position with some additional working weeks in the school holidays. We would welcome applications from candidates that are in a similar role or teachers who have a specialism / interest in career advice.
