Job overview

Brompton Academy, part of University of Kent Academies Trust, is seeking to find highly motivated and committed individuals to join our team of casual Cover Supervisors. The main purpose of the post is to supervise classes during the short-term absence of a teacher and to provide support in a range of areas.

You will be part of a team responsible for supervising whole classes of students to cover short term absences of teachers (planned or emergency cover). This will involve facilitating students learning through supporting them with set activities (provided by teachers), responding to questions from students and managing their behaviour according to Academy Policy.

To be successful in this role you will need to be well organised, confident and work well as part of a team. Previous experience in a similar role or classroom experience will be useful but not essential. However, flexibility, resilience, good numeracy and literacy skills and excellent communications skills will be key. Working as a Cover Supervisor can be extremely rewarding but also very demanding.

The casual nature of this role will require flexibility and work patterns will vary.

You will be coming to an academy wide supportive learning environment, characterised by open management, and in the knowledge that you will enjoy the full support and care of the pragmatic (and down to earth) leadership team. We have a dynamic, innovative team of professional staff who want to make a difference to the lives, aspirations and opportunities of our young people.

The Academy is an extremely popular oversubscribed school with a current Ofsted rating of Good. The Academy also has a 400+ Adult learner education programme.

The Academy moved into brand new buildings in September 2013, with outstanding facilities, and Apple technologies for all, enabling us to enhance and support cutting edge learning strategies required for continuous improvement.

The local area boasts great sporting facilities and the nearby Medway Park (5 minute walk) is an established sports centre with three indoor swimming pools, gym, fitness centre, sports hall and squash courts.  Our Lead Sponsor, the University of Kent also offers a professional Sports Therapy Clinic at Medway Park and offers discounted rates to any BA staff.

For those that might be interested in discovering a bit more about the local area we are very fortunate to have some beautiful landmarks close by and would encourage you to visit the historical town of Rochester, home of Charles Dickens where you will find museums, stunning historic buildings including the 800+ year old Rochester Castle and Rochester Cathedral together with a wide range of hotels and restaurants, bars, tea shops and a buzzing night life.  Or you might want to visit the more rural and quiet tranquil river village of Upnor where you will find Upnor Castle located on the west bank of the River Medway in Kent.
