This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed rowing coach to join our team.

We run a well-established school rowing program, having been a part of the Central Districts Rowing Association for over 20 years. 

About the Role

This is a casual position for the duration of the HVGS Rowing season (Term 4 2019, Term 1 2020 and pre-season as required)

Our coaches provide quality coaching to the students in the Hunter Valley Grammar School Rowing Program and support the Director of Rowing in the overall success of the Program.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Coaching of Learn-to-row, Junior, Intermediate or Senior rowers as directed by the Director of Rowing and Head Coach Contributing to and implementing training plans as directed by the Director of Rowing and Head Coach
  • Participation in induction, professional development, coach meetings, first aid and safety training activities as required 
  • Attendance at all training, camps and regattas as directed by the Director of Rowing
  • Any other rowing related duties as directed by the Director of Rowing and Head Coach

Coaches are critical in ensuring that the systems and guidelines are delivered in a professional and effective manner.

Coaches within the program are considered School staff and as such, are expected to uphold the values of Hunter Valley Grammar School.

Hunter Valley Grammar School is a vibrant non-selective, non-denominational, independent day school, for boys and girls from Preschool - Year 12. Located in the beautiful Hunter Valley, New South Wales we strive for academic excellence within a caring and values-laden learning environment.

Facilities

Hunter Valley Grammar School is situated on 13 hectares of lush landscaped grounds. Facilities include a brand Early Learning Centre, Music and Senior School Centre with Drama Studio, Visual Arts Centre, Library, the Cameron Centre - a multipurpose indoor sports centre and an on-site agriculture plot.

Sporting facilities include a gym, cricket/softball field, rugby/athletics oval, netball/basketball/tennis courts, cricket nets, and a soccer field.

The school runs a full working farm located 5 minutes form the main campus and a state of the art rowing complex on the Hunter River. In 2018 a new Technical and Applied Studies facility was opened and in 2019 a new school Cafeteria will be completed.

Curriculum

The school's Early Learning Centre offers a play-based programme within the Junior School structure. Years K-6 integrates the IB PYP with the NSW Curriculum, and includes co-curricular opportunities such as chess, sports, craft, martial arts, and music. The school is currently moving towards IB Middle Year Programme authorisation. Year 12 completes the Higher School Certificate. Senior School co-curricular activities include LEO Club, Chess Club, Debating, Music Lessons, Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Duke of Edinburgh, Masterminds, Overseas Tours, and Sport.
