This is not school dinners! Join our great team assisting the next generation to make healthy choices for life.

We are a highly respected and successful independent co-educational day and boarding school with over 1,000 students aged from 3-18 located in South Croydon. Our Catering team does more than just provide meals for our pupils and staff. We also provide a range of hospitality services including external business events and functions such as weddings. Due to the School’s success in growing student numbers alongside increasing demand for our non-core catering, we are expanding our Catering team to provide high quality catering and hospitality services all year round.

The Catering department (38 staff) provides a daily catering service to staff, students and visitors, producing around 1300 lunches each day, and breakfast, supper and all weekend meals during term time weeks for our 160 boarding students as well as catering for a variety of School functions and marketing events. Outside term time we provide meals for staff in school and students living on site for holiday courses such as language or sports activities. Our Catering Assistants serve customers in the front of house area during normal daily service, or at locations elsewhere in the site including outside during black tie functions and events, clean and prepare the dining hall for core service, and clear and wash-up after service using mechanical equipment.

All posts work on a shift roster planned half a term in advance, covering 6.00 am to 8.30 pm in term time for core catering activity (with more standard fixed hours during holiday periods) and working five days out of seven. We pay a shift allowance for this unsocial working. Hospitality and functions events may take place at any time and we pay enhanced rates for overtime working.

You should have great communication and customer service skills and have a polite, friendly and positive approach at all times. We pride ourselves on offering a high quality service and want staff who are committed to the highest standards, are passionate about food and able to use their own initiative to deliver this. It would be beneficial if you had previous experience in a high-volume catering environment but a strong work ethic, a can-do attitude, and a willingness to pitch in are most important.

These exciting opportunities offer excellent benefits including a salary in excess of the national minimum wage, working with a fantastic team of dedicated and friendly staff, immediate non-contributory pension, free life cover, free car parking, free meals, working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities, all combined with the opportunity to be part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.

Please visit http://www.royalrussell.co.uk/Vacancies for further details about our School, the roles and the application process. Alternatively email hr@royalrussell.co.uk or call the School on 0208-657-4433 to request the job details and an application form.

A fully completed application form which includes a supporting statement setting out how you meet our requirements and whether you are looking for full-time or part-time work, and details of two referees, should be emailed to hr@royalrussell.co.uk. References may be taken up before interview. Applications will be considered on receipt and should arrive no later than 12 noon on Monday 21st May 2018. Applications will be considered on receipt. Interviews will be held during week commencing 28th May 2018.

Applicants who have not heard from us by Friday 25th May 2018 should presume that they have not been successful on this occasion.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List) and other pre-employment screening including references and medical fitness.

Located just 8 mins from East Croydon station, pupils enjoy the 110-acre campus, which contains incredible facilities to inspire learning and personal growth; from cutting-edge science labs, extensive sporting facilities, Chapel, Great Hall, spacious dining areas, Performing Arts Centre and beautiful Houses surrounded by green open space.

The School offers bespoke educational pathways to support children and is guided by expert tutors, teachers, coaches and pastoral teams.

There are more than 300 pupils in the Junior School, and over 800 pupils in the Senior School including approximately 250 pupils in the Sixth Form. The School also has around 180 boarders staying in the boarding houses on campus.  Pupils benefit from learning in a co-educational setting and as part of an open community that reflects the real world, celebrating both individual and collective achievements.

Royal Russell was founded in 1853 as a charity to look after orphans of families from the textile trades and is proud to have enjoyed Royal Patronage from its foundation, and for having Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the School’s Patron during her reign.
