Catering Manager

Pay: LGS Scale 7 , points 19-24 (£ 25,481-£28,672 per annum pro rata)

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours Mon – Thu 8.00am-4.00pm, Fri 8.00am-3.30pm term time, plus INSET days plus 3 weeks during school holidays.

The start date for this post is 4 January 2022.

We are seeking to appoint a Catering Manager to be responsible for the catering service provided at the school.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. A disclosure/status check will be sought from the Disclosure and Barring Service for the successful candidate.

The role will involve:

● Responsibility for the operational efficiency of the catering service: planning, preparation and presentation of food and beverages to the required standard within the budget limitations as agreed with the school management

● Planning and managing the development of the School’s Catering Provision for students, staff and events

● Maintenance of the highest standards of hygiene and health and safety

● Leading a team to produce a healthy, nutritious and balanced menu for all members of the school community

We're looking for you i f you have:

● Relevant catering qualifications to at least NVQ Level 3

● Experience in the operational efficiency, planning, preparation and presentation of food

and beverages to a high standard within agreed budget limitations

● The ability to maintain a high standard of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene

to comply with statutory and school regulations, including working knowledge of health

and safety and food related regulations

● The knowledge of own position within a team environment and the boundaries which apply

● The ability to manage and support the work of others

Every student matters at The Stanway School. Our school is heavily over-subscribed, with over 1300 students currently on roll. This year (2021) all of our year groups will be full with 280 students following the development of our site to accommodate students in modern, purpose-built classrooms that include our new Creative Arts block and recently completed new dining hall to facilitate safe recreation time too. From Italian Meatballs to a Full English Breakfast, our lunchtime offering is popular with staff and students alike!

As a specialist Humanities and Maths & Computing school, our students are motivated to pursue a broad education into KS4 when choosing their GCSE options. Evidently, we are doing something right with some great headlines in recent years’ exam results:

• 51%/44% of students achieving Grades 5+ in both English & Maths

• 76% of all entries achieved a Grade 4 or above

• 21% of all entries achieved a Grade 7 or above, including English and Maths

• 65 Grade 9s have been awarded this year

High expectations for behaviour, attendance and punctuality help our students make good progress and we endeavour to match our teaching to students’ individual needs, interests and aptitudes. All members of the school community are expected to strive to beat their previous best and take pride in their achievements.

Determined

Our outstanding staff are determined to provide high quality teaching for all students, regardless of their prior attainment or social background. As testament to this commitment, we have a suite of well-attended Continuing Professional Development activities that take place throughout the school year. One example would be staff opting to engage in research to ensure we remain at the cutting edge of educational development and pedagogy, supporting students through evidence-based approaches to ensure rigour in our curriculum. Alternatively, as a new member of staff at Stanway you could benefit from our collaboration with The Sigma Trust (since September 2016); over 35 Science colleagues gathered at a partner school in February to discuss exam board feedback and try online resources to reinforce class-based learning at home.

Following their own academic path, our young people develop informed opinions, and are able to play a full part in their school community leaving them ready for their next stage of education, work or training.

Everyone in our school community is valued, and we recognise this through our multi-layered rewards system. Students are motivated to apply for our Omnium, Bicameral and Triumvirate awards, in appreciation of students’ commitment to their school community and personal achievement.
