Job overview

Cotswold Beacon Academy Trust (CBAT) is a thriving partnership, currently comprising three schools. We share a commitment to high aspirations and expectations whilst helping each school to retain their own unique identity and sense of purpose. CBAT is an ambitious community with pupils at the heart of everything we do. We drive excellent outcomes for our pupils, enriching their learning opportunities and ensuring that each one is given every chance to achieve their utmost potential.

Following the announcement that Dr Stuart Wilson, former Headteacher of Marling School and CBAT’s founding CEO, will shortly retire, we seek a strategic and inspiring leader to grow and further develop our Trust. Working with a committed Trust Board, a skilled leadership team and a high-performing community of educators, the appointee will drive our strategy and develop our ways of working, enabling us to achieve our mission for young people.

We seek candidates with high levels of personal integrity and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. You should offer a strong track record of achievement as a Trust CEO / Education Director or Executive Headteacher, with the strategic capability, personal impact and creativity to shape an exciting outlook for our Trust. Candidates who have not yet operated at this level should be able to demonstrate significant experience beyond the headship of one school, for example leadership of schools in different contexts and/ or system improvement experience. Prior experience in education and belief in its transformative power is essential.

An executive search exercise is being undertaken by Perrett Laver in parallel with the public advertisement of the post.

In line with our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, we are using an innovative approach in this recruitment process that involves an anonymised longlisting process, to ensure the truly talented are brought forward and to remove the bias-generating signals that are so often given by applicants’ CVs.

Candidate suitability will be judged based on four threshold criteria questions linked to the key skills for the role. We ask candidates to submit responses to questions (500 words max per answer) that will allow the selection panel to assess them in relation to the skills needed for success in post. We also ask for a full application form to be submitted, but this will not be available to the selection panel at CBAT as they make their initial evaluations of candidates’ answers to the questions. Therefore, these answers should not contain any identifying criteria, including name, current or past employers, etc.

To download further information on the role and to submit an application please visit https://candidates.perrettlaver.com/vacancies/ quoting reference 5938.

The closing date for applications is 08:30 am BST, Thursday 20th October 2022. Any initial enquiries should be directed to David Kett (Research Associate, Perrett Laver) at David.Kett@perrettlaver.com.

The preferred start date for the appointee is May 1st 2023.
