The Chair manages the local governing body’s (LGB) six meetings per year(one each half term). The Chair also sits on each of the three sub-committees, the Education Sub-committee (five meetings per year) the Finance Sub-committee (four or five meetings per year) and chairs the People and Performance Management Sub-committee (two meetings per year). The Chair also holds an ‘exofficio’ role as a trustee on the Knowledge Schools Trust.

The Chair role works closely with the Chief Executive and with Clare Wagner, Headteacher and her Senior Leadership Team, to ensure that the school delivers on its improvement targets and operates in accordance with the expectations, ethos and values of the Knowledge Schools Trust.

Being Chair should take up approximately 2-3 days a month. Further details on the role and composition of the LGB can be found here: https://www.wlfs.org/Governing-body/

The role provides an excellent opportunity to really get to know how schools work and play an important part in helping to ensure our continued success.

  • Instill a lifelong love of learning

A Classical Liberal Education

By a classical liberal education we mean a rigorous and extensive knowledge-based education that draws its material and methods from the best and most important work in both the humanities and the sciences. The aim of such an education is not primarily to prepare pupils for a job or career. It is more to transform their minds so that they are able to make reasonable and informed judgments and engage fruitfully in conversation and debate – not just about contemporary issues, but also about the universal questions that have been troubling mankind throughout history. We want children to leave our school with the confidence that comes from possessing a store of essential knowledge and the skills to use it. We believe that independence of mind, not compliance with socio-economic expectations, is the goal of a good education.
