Job overview

The Knowledge Schools Trust is looking for a new Chair from July 2020.

Would you be interested in this key role leading the board of trustees who govern the four schools that make up the Knowledge Schools Trust?

The role requires leadership of board meetings, oversight of the trust’s strategic, resourcing and financial plans, and working closely with a group of like minded professionals who advise the Chief Executive and the Headteachers.

An overview of the board of trustees and directors can be found here: http://www.knowledgeschoolstrust.org/Personnel/Directors-and-Officers/

Please see an overview of the Trust, its ethos and values here: http://www.knowledgeschoolstrust.org.

The Chair role requires between 1-2 days per month, with 1 full board meeting each term and attendance at 3 Finance and Operation Committee meetings and 2 Remuneration Committee meetings over the school year.

The role provides an excellent opportunity to really get to know how schools work and play an important part in helping to ensure our continued success.

Ideally prior experience at board or senior level would be beneficial but we would be interested to hear from anyone who would be interested in exploring this role further.

If you are interested, please contact Ian Hunter i.hunter@ks-t.org to arrange an informal chat. The application closing date for the role is noon on Friday 19th June. Job descriptions and candidate application packs are available on request.

Thank you for your interest, we look forward to hearing from you.

  • A broad range of extra-curricular activities

Objectives

  • Encourage all children to be confident, hard-working and ambitious, regardless of background
  • Transmit a core body of knowledge to all pupils
  • Encourage every pupil to complete their education and do a sufficiently demanding course of Sixth Form study to progress to a good university
  • Attract and retain outstanding teachers
  • Instill a lifelong love of learning

A Classical Liberal Education

By a classical liberal education we mean a rigorous and extensive knowledge-based education that draws its material and methods from the best and most important work in both the humanities and the sciences. The aim of such an education is not primarily to prepare pupils for a job or career. It is more to transform their minds so that they are able to make reasonable and informed judgments and engage fruitfully in conversation and debate – not just about contemporary issues, but also about the universal questions that have been troubling mankind throughout history. We want children to leave our school with the confidence that comes from possessing a store of essential knowledge and the skills to use it. We believe that independence of mind, not compliance with socio-economic expectations, is the goal of a good education.
