Job overview

A fantastic and unique opportunity has arisen to recruit a new Chaplain. Our current Chaplain is taking up a new role as a youth counsellor after six years at the Academy. We are looking for someone, ideally with a background in Christian youth work and/ or  Chaplaincy, to become our new Chaplain. This role is a key one at the Academy, ensuring that students and staff are supported and guided on their spiritual journey. The Academy opened in 2009 to meet the need for a mixed Church of England school in the local area. Half our intake is admitted through the foundation route but all our students apply in the knowledge that they will both be supported and flourish in a proudly Christian environment. Our students are wonderful; hard working and enormously proud of their Academy. Staff are dedicated and highly-ambitious and alongside the  talented Leadership Team, ensure we continue to be successful and truly aspirational for the the young people we serve

Overview

We hope that the application pack, along with the Academy’s website, gives you all of the information that you need to help you apply. Chelsea Academy is a wonderful place to work and visitors often comment on the excellent behaviour of our students, the friendliness of our staff, our strong Christian ethos and the fantastic Academy building. Our aim is simple; to provide an excellent education for students, ensure our Academy is a diverse and inclusive community and that our students leave us happy and equipped to flourish.

We are currently graded outstanding by Ofsted (2012) and SIAMS (2017) Results at both GCSE and A Level are very strong; in the top 10% nationally for progress and attainment in many subjects. However, we are much more than a successful, academically focused school. We believe in educating the whole child and our Christian values of joy, perseverance, servant leadership, charity and forgiveness underpin everything we stand for. It is important that all of our staff, whether they are teachers or not, work closely with our young people and ensure that they are successful in all that they do. We are looking for staff who will always go the extra mile for our young people and believe that education happens both in and out of the classroom.

The Academy seeks to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and inspiring Chaplain who is committed to further developing the Academy’s distinctive and inclusive Christian ethos. This post is open to individuals who are ordained members of the Church of England or other Christian denominations, or lay individuals with experience of Christian youth work and/or Church leadership, and who have a clear understanding of the distinctive character of Church of England schools. Chelsea Academy is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment of mutual respect.  We welcome applications from candidates regardless of their backgrounds.

Chelsea Academy is a great place to work (we are one of the few schools in the country with Investors in People Gold, reaccredited in June 2020, as well as a Commitment Award from the London Healthy Workplace Charter), our staff are friendly and supportive and we offer a whole range of professional development opportunities no matter what stage you are at in your career. We offer internal and external training throughout the year,  as your professional development is important to us.   Academy staff have access to a wide range of benefits including a private healthcare package, 24 hour GP service, physiotherapy and a confidential well-being support line as well as a laptop and free lunch.

The person appointed will ideally be a practising Anglican. The post will involve significant Chaplaincy work; the development of opportunities for spiritual growth and worship at the Academy, and the support of individual students to enable them to flourish. There is a beautiful Chapel situated in the heart of the Academy building and significant resource to undertake vital Chaplaincy work. Successful candidates will join a strong pastoral team in our flourishing community. There may be other duties to be negotiated depending on the strength and experience of the right candidate.

Needless to say, you will need to be eternally optimistic, full of resilience, energetic, encouraging, love working with young people and have a good sense of humour!
