Founded in 1646 with Christian principles central to its ethos, Reading Blue Coat School is a leading independent day school with 750 pupils, boys aged 11 – 18, and a co-educational Sixth Form. The School is located on a beautiful 46 acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading, overlooking the Thames.
We offer a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical and creative potential.
A full time Chaplain is required from September 2017 who will be the moral compass for the School and be fully integrated into school life.
The School is still true to its charitable foundation in many ways, and all pupils attend a weekly spiritual assembly and sit a GCSE in Religious Studies.
Responsibilities will include leading spiritual assemblies in the School, leading other important spiritual events and services, support the musical life of the School, support and provide counselling to pupils and staff of different denominational affiliations and other faiths; support the pastoral life of the School, engage with the charitable work of the School, teach an appropriate subject within the curriculum, serve as the liaison with St Andrew’s Church in Sonning.
The successful candidate will be a person of genuine faith with the passion to lead others, be able to support different Christian denominations and to promote good relations with other faith groups, be educated to degree level, have charisma and energy in abundance; and have outstanding public speaking skills.
Given the foundation of the School, it is likely that candidates will be an Ordained Minister of the Anglican tradition.
You will be expected to contribute to the co-curricular programme and the wider life of the School, to which your energy, warmth and pastoral instincts will lend themselves.
Reading Blue Coat was recently recognised by the Daily Telegraph as being one of ten schools offering best value in the UK.
We offer an excellent salary and benefits package, dependent on qualifications and experience. No accommodation is provided. This is a term time only position.
