Job overview

The Essa Foundation Academies Trust (EFAT) was established in 2008 to set up and run inclusive academies and free schools in Bolton and further afield. With a vision of educational excellence and a mission to transform the learning and life opportunities of its pupils, it opened its first academy – the award winning secondary school, Essa Academy - in 2009, with the Essa Primary Academy opening in September 2014 as part of the government’s free school programme.

EFAT is committed to developing inclusive academies that are fit for purpose for the 21st Century; that prepare pupils for a successful adult and working life in a constantly changing world; that are at the heart of their communities and the area’s regeneration; and that do not select pupils by ability, aptitude, faith, race or gender.

The Trust is ambitious and has plans to develop further primary, secondary and post 16 provision and when the time is right, to invite other schools to join Essa Foundation’s Multi Academy Trust as it is eager to share its approach and success with other schools.

It currently seeks a Chief Executive to lead this young, growing and ambitious trust and ensure it achieves its mission.

Reporting into the Chair of EFAT you will:

  • lead and manage EFAT, maintaining a sustainable infrastructure, underpinned by strong robust systems and reporting processes
  • work with the Trust Board to set the strategic direction for EFAT
  • provide systems leadership across all EFAT academies and ensure high quality performance
  • develop effective working relationships that promote the Trust’s objectives with Regional School Commissioners, LAs, the DfE and other significant external stakeholders

Ideally a Headteacher or senior leader in an education related field by background with a track record of excellent educational or organisational delivery, you possess extensive knowledge and experience of the challenges of improving schools or other educational institutions and of delivering outstanding outcomes through effective partnerships. You possess the people management and leadership skills to take people with you and the ambition and drive required to build on our achievements and continue our development.

You are able to operate strategically and maintain a strong focus on governance and the management of resources, whilst at the same time placing our young people at the centre of everything you do.

This is a fantastic opportunity to further develop a Trust that aims to improve educational opportunity and secure high standards and achievement for pupils in all its academies.

In return for your integrity, honesty and moral purpose, we are able to offer you the opportunity to work alongside a highly committed and engaged Trust Board, dedicated school leaders and exceptionally talented teachers.

You will also further develop a trust, which has ambitious plans for significant further development over the next three to five years.
