Job overview

Applications are invited for the part-time post of Chief Executive Officer of the recently established charity (no. 1196215), the School Partnerships Alliance (SPA). This new exciting role will suit an innovative, enthusiastic and self-motivated leader with a commitment and ambition to building an impactful and effective national education charity.

SPA’s vision is to develop and promote sustainable and impactful cross-sector school partnerships focussed on addressing educational disadvantage; ones which promote mutual benefit and respect across the system.  The role of CEO of SPA is complex and wide-ranging.

The appointee will need to understand the challenges and pressures of leading a new organisation and one with numerous stakeholders from different sectors. Working with the newly appointed trustee board, the CEO will chart an ambitious course for the future. Initially it is expected the part-time CEO will work for two days per week.

SPA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We ask all our candidates to share this commitment and adhere to safer recruitment practices. Please note that you will be required to bring documentation with you to the interview to provide proof of your identity and qualifications as part of our safeguarding procedures. You will also be required, if an offer is made, to undergo relevant background checks, as part of our safeguarding procedures (e.g., enhanced DBS clearance).

About School Partnerships Alliance

Introduction to School Partnerships Alliance

The School Partnerships Alliance (SPA) recently became a CIO (charity number 1196215). The journey from what was a small group of school partnerships professionals just five years ago to this independent well-supported charity has been swift and exciting. The trustees are now looking for a part-time CEO to take the organisation to new heights. SPA’s objects highlight the core vision of the organisation.

They…

“… are, for the public benefit, to advance education, in particular but not exclusively, by developing and promoting partnerships between schools to develop the educational, social and employment capacities, capabilities and opportunities of children and young people, including disadvantaged children and young people and to improve their conditions of life."

The trustees have significant aspirations for the charity. Since the Charity Commission approval there has been considerable enthusiasm for SPA’s vision to promote and help develop sustainable and impactful cross-sector partnerships which focus on addressing disadvantage; ones which promote mutual benefit and respect between the two sectors.

The charity is already well supported by an engaged, influential and experienced Advisory Board, which reflects the educational landscape. Further evidence of the enthusiasm for SPA can be found in the generous seed funding which has been raised ahead of the launch. Enough funds have been secured to steer SPA through its first two years (at least). Operationally SPA will:

  • develop an industry-wide “kite-mark” for partnerships across both state and independent sectors. Schools and other stakeholders from both sectors have already voiced their enthusiasm for SPA
  • offer on-going CPD and specifically convene an annual conference, which will bring together schools, partnership practitioners, government (both national and local) and partners from different sectors in order to promote the partnership work of the schools
  • give access to extensive research
  • give access to the longitudinal impact assessment research, which will be of considerable benefit to the individual school and also to the sector as a whole
  • offer the significant and beneficial expertise of SPA members, especially to those new to partnerships
  • facilitate an on-going relationship with partners engaged in partnerships, thus utilising the wider educational and social mobility network

Never has there been a more significant time to be involved in the education sector; short term the sector is striving to recover at pace from the pandemic, longer term it is seeking to provide a relevant and imaginative education for a rapidly changing world, one in which every child, regardless of circumstance, should have the opportunity to thrive and flourish. This is the core ambition of SPA, which it will accomplish by promoting, developing, and influencing sustainable and impactful partnerships between schools.
