Job Profile: The Chief Financial Officer will provide leadership and management of all aspects of finance, as well as contributing to the strategic direction of the Trust.

The Archdiocese of Liverpool Secondary School Academy Trust (ALSSAT) is looking to appoint an outstanding Chief Financial Officer. This is a new, high-profile role within an exciting and expanding multi-academy trust. The CFO will be expected to:

  • play an active role in the leadership of the trust, helping to develop and implement strategy and ensuring the trust’s objectives are delivered sustainably and in the public interest;
  • lead the promotion and delivery of good financial and HR management across the trust, ensuring that public money is used appropriately, economically, efficiently and effectively and securing best value for the trust and its schools;
  • actively support the continued growth and development of the trust, ensuring that the longer-term benefits and risks of business decisions made by the trust are fully considered and fit with the trust’s overall financial strategy;
  • provide effective leadership of the trust’s central Finance & HR Teams, supporting the smooth operation of all the trust’s central functions and ensure that the key financial and reporting responsibilities of an academy are fulfilled.

Our new CFO will be suitably qualified and will have a proven track record of financial management in the public or private sector. Prior experience of working within a multi-academy trust, although useful, is not essential. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, be able to communicate confidently and clearly, and will be both a good team player and a capable leader, willing to make sound strategic decisions in line with the trust’s overall aims and ethos. Working closely with the CEO, they will help to make sure that ALSSAT makes a positive difference to the lives of its children and their families.

Normal Place of Work: It is envisaged that this job will be undertaken through a blended approach of working in schools, at home and at ALSSAT’s head office.

Candidates wishing to apply should download the recruitment pack and the ALSSAT application form. The completed application should be e-mailed to Helen McKie at h.mckie@rcaol.org.uk  together with a supporting statement no longer than 1300 words outlining why you feel you are suitable for the post and how you would deliver the vision of the MAT across our schools. Applications should be submitted by 5 pm on Friday 31st July 2020. Shortlisting will take place 11th August 2020 and interviews will follow thereafter.

The Pope Francis Catholic MAT is the first of the Catholic Multi Academy Trusts that are being formed by the Archdiocese of Liverpool. Each school within the Archdiocese will be given the opportunity to join one of 12 locally based Catholic MATs. We are the first of these MATs and are therefore acting as a pathfinder for the CMATs that will follow. At present there are three schools within the CMAT; St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic Academy in Whiston, Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in Crosby and The Salesian Academy of St John Bosco in Bootle. The Pope Francis Catholic MAT will serve the Sefton area and may ultimately include up to 29 Catholic schools, both primary and secondary. The Archdiocesan Catholic MATs will work closely with one another and have a clearly defined philosophy about the way in which a Multi Academy Trust works.

We believe that each of our schools has their own distinct identity, history, tradition and values. We believe very much in the preservation of this identity and that the role of the Trust is to work with the Headteacher to offer support and the highest quality services to enable the schools to focus exclusively on providing the highest quality of education rather than dealing with other distractions. We aim to create a collaborative Trust where all individuals are able to thrive and flourish knowing that they are being underpinned with strong support. Our Mission is clearly laid out, “Enabling schools, aspiration and faith to flourish by uplifting hearts and inspiring minds.”

Our values are:

Unity - working together for excellence

Excellence - to thrive to be the best

Love - respect and care for others and treat them as you want to be treated

Service - following the teachings of Christ to become valued members of our communities
