Scarisbrick Hall School are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Choral Director to lead the vocal provision in our school. The role will include weekly rehearsals with multiple choirs ranging from the Senior Choir to First School year group choirs (Currently 9 choirs in total). It will also include weekly 1 on 1 lessons with students to develop the vocal ability in the school. 

Scarisbrick Hall School is excited to announce that building has commenced on the Performing Arts teaching block and the new Theatre. This is a large project that contains two separate buildings (the Teaching Block and Theatre), which will be open by the summer.

Details of the Music Department

The Music department is an integral part of Scarisbrick Hall with a prominent position in the wider school life. It consists of three full time Music teachers and a team of 11 peripatetic staff delivering over 180 individual lessons per week. Music is taught by specialist teachers from reception through to the 6th Form and every year from reception to Year 6 has a whole year group choir session as part of their curriculum each week. There are a range of extra-curricular ensembles including multiple choirs, Orchestra and Junior Orchestra, Brass Group and Jazz Group. The Music department play an active role in the school calendar with a plethora of events throughout the year including Awards Day, the Carol Service, the Spring Concert, Arts for a Summers Evening, a large production every 2 years, Tea Time Concerts and 1st school nativities and shows.

• Leading rehearsals for the full range of choirs at Scarisbrick Hall School

• Selecting suitable music for each choir

• Directing the choirs at the schools' performances and events

• Delivering individual vocal lessons

• Full Time / Part Time (if part time one day must be Monday)

Person Specification

Essential/Desirable

• Experience of leading a variety of choirs over different age groups - E

• Knowledge of a variety of choral repertoire - E

• A successful track record of individual teaching - E

• Understanding of how to rehearse a choir in preparation for a performance - E

• Excellent musical knowledge - E

• A passion for music - E

• Experience of working in the Independent Sector - D

• The ability to accompany choirs would be beneficial but is not essential, we look at the bigger picture of each candidates skills and experience to ensure we appoint the correct candidate - D

Scarisbrick Hall is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational, birth-18 years, all-through Independent School with Nursery and Sixth Form situated in Ormskirk, Lancashire. When fully subscribed, Beautiful Beginnings Day Nursery, Pre-School, Primary and Secondary and Sixth-Form will provide places for 800 students. The school policy is to have no more than 21 children to a class.

The Hall – a 150-room mansion built in about 1850 – has been an Independent School since 1963. After a number of changes in ownership, the school was bought by its current owners in 2010.

Guest speakers have included: Denise Lewis, OBE – Olympic Athlete; David Henson, MBE – Parasport Athlete; Ben Lesser – Holocaust Survivor; Dr Maria Van Kerkhove – World Health Organisation Infectious Diseases Epidemiologist and many others.  In May 2022 we spoke live with Dr Stefanie Milan from NASA about the James Webb Space Telescope.

In September 2023 Scarisbrick Hall School opened the brand new Oak Theatre, Gasworks Cafe and Oak Studios.  The Oak Studio is home to Dance and Drama studios, Music and Practice rooms and a state of the art recording studio and media editing suite.

The Oak Theatre can hold up to 400 people and is used for many of our school events throughout the year.

In November 2022, Scarisbrick Hall School was subject to an inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). We are proud to announce we received a 100% Excellent Inspectorate Report with particular focus on the quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements and their personal development which were both rated excellent.
