Job overview

Connaught House School is an independent, family-owned, co-educational school near Hyde Park, registered for 76 pupils. Established in 1953, we provide a nurturing yet ambitious environment where children join from the age of four and are fully prepared for the 11+ in Year Six.

Music is at the heart of our school community. Over 90% of our pupils take at least one instrumental lesson each week, with many studying multiple disciplines. Our thriving music department offers tuition in Singing, Piano, Violin, Flute, Saxophone and Recorder. We run two choirs, class recorder lessons from Year Three and violin groups in Key Stage 2. Regular music assemblies, mini concerts and major performances at Christmas and in the summer showcase our pupils' talents.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Recorder Teacher to teach weekly, 30-minute each, class recorder lessons for pupils in Year Three to Year Six (four lessons in total). As an employed member of staff this role requires a teacher with deep subject knowledge, high expectations and a warm and encouraging approach. Our pupils are highly motivated and behaviour across the school is excellent.

In addition, there is the opportunity for a specialist to teach individual Woodwind lessons on a self-employed basis.

Both these elements are for Maternity Cover during the Summer and Autumn terms 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individual woodwind lessons (flute, clarinet, recorder, saxophone etc.)

Teach four, half-hour class lessons that are engaging and structured (Year Three – Year Six)

Encourage pupils to participate in school concerts and performances

Foster a love of music in a supportive and ambitious school environment

Requirements:

Expertise in woodwind instruments with experience teaching young learners

Ability to deliver engaging group recorder lessons

Strong communication skills and a nurturing approach

Enhanced DBS check required

Ability to arrange the individual woodwind lessons and invoice parents directly

If you are passionate about music education and available for a maternity cover position, we would love to hear from you

Apply by completing the linked CHS application form only. CV’s will not be considered
