Southfield School. Amazing pupils, the chance to make your mark, a great staff team, a school that is aiming high. Come and join us!

Southfield School is looking for a creative and energetic teacher. We need a highly skilled and adaptable teacher who realises that 'one size does not fit all'. Our successful candidate will be a team player who has high expectations. Our fantastic pupils deserve teachers who will make their learning fun, whilst enabling them to reach their goals. We can offer you opportunities to develop and consolidate your skills, in the diverse and fast changing field of Special Education. We value the CPD of our team and support, and specific training to meet the needs of our pupils (ASD/MLD/SLCN/ADHD) will be offered. You will have opportunities to develop your role as a subject co-ordinator, and become involved in imaginative new initiatives through the school development plan. Candidates from both special and mainstream education are welcome to apply. What matters to us is that you have a flexible approach, a positive commitment to removing barriers to learning, and the passion to aim high for all pupils.

We are a friendly, supportive and skilled staff team and work closely with parents and professionals from a number of other fields. This is a really exciting time to join our school. We have settled into a beautiful new building in Hatfield town centre. We are developing great links with our local mainstream schools and delivering a creative curriculum through specialist provision and imaginative approaches. We are celebrating our recent success in gaining Autism Accreditation. Southfield is a good school (Ofsted Nov 2012) and our plans are focused on securing a judgement of outstanding. We need an aspirational teacher, who is highly committed to school improvement.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged and can be arranged by contacting Linda Dyball on 01707 276504. Southfield is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All vacancies will be subject to DBS checks and satisfactory references

The closing date for this vacancy is 9.00 a.m. on 10/05/2017.
Interview date: 16th May 2017
The post will commence in September 2017.

Southfield is a primary school for up to 72 pupils with Complex Learning Difficulties which include, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Speech Language and Communication Difficulties, and ADHD. It is situated in South Hatfield. In November 2012 we received a judgment of 'Good' under the new Ofsted inspection framework. This judgment reflects the commitment of both pupils, staff and the wider school community to 'learning together'. Our pupils are engaging and unique and have a wide range of abilities and needs. We follow the EYFS and National Curriculum and adapt these to meet the individual interests and needs of our pupils. We use a wide range of approaches and strategies to support learning including multi sensory approaches, Makaton,PECS, SCERTS,social stories,TEACCH approaches and Hertfordshire Steps amongst others.

Our school is going through a period of rapid and exciting change. In September 2013 the school moved (on a temporary basis)to new purpose built premises near Hatfield town centre. In our new location we have developed strong and inclusive links with mainstream schools. We use the many amenities in the town centre to enrich and enhance pupil learning. Having recently achieved Autism Accreditation the focus of our School Development Plan is to continue to adapt and develop our curriculum and provision to ensure that our pupils make excellent progress and enjoy their time at Southfield School. We prioritize social communication skills, emotional regulation and positive behaviour for learning, so that our pupils are able to access a broad curriculum and develop both academic skills and skills for living and learning.

Everone matters, everyone achieves and everyday counts.
