Job overview

Fixed Term - Summer Term Only

Wetherby Kensington is currently looking for a career minded and enthusiastic KS2 Class Teacher to join our team from April 2023 to July 2023.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified, imaginative and driven teacher who works with equal efficacy independently and as part of a team. Applicants will join an innovative, forward-thinking and committed team. The position would suit dynamic teachers who are able to inspire pupils of all abilities to develop their full potential. A subject leader role position may also be available for the right candidate.

Experience of teaching in Key Stage 2 is essential as is a thorough up-to-date knowledge and experience of the curriculum. Knowledge and experience of working in the London Day School system in either the 7+ or the 8+ year groups is desirable but not essential. What is also important is your ability to interact and support children in a positive way to foster their enthusiasm for learning and to have the skills and maturity required to take on the teaching duties and responsibilities in a relatively new year group.

The School

Wetherby Kensington is a two form, non-selective, pre-preparatory school for boys from Reception to Year 3. It follows exactly the same curriculum and shares the same values and ethos as Wetherby School and is an integral part of the Wetherby Group of schools. Boys at Wetherby Kensington receive very high levels of academic education and pastoral care. Wetherby Kensington is part of the Alpha Plus Group of schools, which is one of the country's leading educational groups.

The Group

The Alpha Plus Group was founded in 1931 and currently comprises independent nurseries, schools and colleges, which have developed a longstanding reputation for delivering premium quality education. Alpha Plus Group creates centres of educational excellence. Each centre retains its own identity, with the Heads and Principals afforded significant management authority, but with the benefits of financial security, camaraderie and opportunities for sharing best practice by belonging to one of the country's leading educational groups.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • To plan, prepare, and implement the agreed school curriculum to cater for the needs of all children within the assigned class and any other class taught.
  • To provide a warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere that is conducive to the social and emotional needs of the children within the class.
  • To conduct lessons according to the agreed policy and syllabus.
  • To observe and evaluate the progress of each child and to record this progress as defined by the school.
  • To provide pastoral support for the class, ensuring each child is given the opportunity to reach their potential and be alert to any signs of emotional distress.
  • To efficiently mark and comment upon the pupil’s work as defined in the school policy.
  • To assess and evaluate pupil’s progress using the school’s agreed monitoring and assessment procedures.
  • To create an engaging, stimulating and relevant learning environment through displays and classroom organisation.
  • To set clear expectations for support staff and learners with regard to learning objectives and next steps for future progress in this regard.
  • To maintain discipline in accordance with school policies at all times and to encourage positive practise in relation to general behaviour and approach to school life.
  • To set homework, according to the homework policy, and to mark it with comments that will be helpful to both the pupil and parent.
  • To maintain cordial and informative relationships with parents.
  • To provide support for the children in a broad range of situations both on and off-site.
  • To work as part of a team with the teachers and assistants within the assigned year group and the rest of the school staff.
  • To liaise with other teachers in the school to ensure continuity between classes and departments.
  • To prepare boys thoroughly for 8+ examinations and complete any documentation pertinent to this.
