Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Class Teacher on a full-time permanent basis from September 2021. Both experienced and newly qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Special School in Reading catering for up to 64 students, aged 11-16 with Education, Health Care Plans (EHCP). Their mission is to recognise each and every one of their students as individuals, and to nurture their potential, developing the whole child through a therapeutic approach. 

The school is currently going through a transition with a purpose-built new site due to be opened next year which will increase the maximum capacity and create a diverse and safe environment for children to progress in their learning.

The school recently joined a respected Trust where the aim for every school in the Trust, whilst espousing their values and ethos, and having a core of common policies and procedures, will serve its own community’s needs in a bespoke way and also create a feeling of community within its own school. In that way all the potential and talents of every child and every member of staff will be nurtured.

It also offers a range of career opportunities in its vibrant and successful schools. The Trust has a proven track record of supporting ambitious staff to middle and senior leadership posts and can offer Specialist Leader of Education and school improvement opportunities to the right candidates.

The school are looking for an open-minded, curious, kind and inspirational all-round Teacher to work at the school. You will need to be able to teach core subjects including Science, Creative Arts and Food. Applications from candidates with primary training and experience with SEMH are particularly welcomed.

Job purpose:

  • To plan, resource and deliver highly effective and inspiring lessons as per the allocated timetable.
  • To participate in a designated tutor team, leading highly effective tutor periods.
  • To ensure that students make exceptional progress and achieve excellent academic results.
  • To work with colleagues to design engaging and challenging schemes of work and lessons.
  • To establish and maintain discipline in all aspect of their work and support others in the school to do so.
  • To contribute to the effective working of the school and the Trust (including implementing all policies fully).
  • To conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity at all times, acting with the best interests of the students in the Trust at all times.
  • To ensure they are prepared for Ofsted inspections and any other benchmarking or assessment visits

The school offer a flexible CPD programme which staff can tailor to their own needs which includes coaching and training for new entrants to the profession and to support career returners. They are also very happy to discuss flexible working arrangements including part-time working and job-sharing.
