Peterhouse is a non-maintained Specialist School for pupils with Autism aged 5-19 in Southport.

 

We are looking for an inspirational class teacher with a passion for SEN and a creative, inspirational approach to delivering the curriculum. The successful candidate will join our thriving school and make a real difference to the lives of our learners!

Peterhouse School offers a rich and ambitious curriculum for all our learners to best equip them for the future. We have high expectations for learners' progress in the core areas of interaction and communication, cognition, physical development, social, emotional, and mental health, as well as self-help and independence. Every pupil has a personalised curriculum that is closely aligned with their education, health, and care plan (EHCP). Our high-quality curriculum is led by our expert teaching staff but is created collaboratively with parents, carers, and other professionals and specialists as needed.  

We want pupils to be excited about coming to school and love learning. We want them to be motivated and challenged and watch as they thrive in a school that understands their individuality and celebrates their unique qualities and strengths. Most of all, we are committed to providing every learner with the tools and strategies to become a successful adult with autism.

 

What is the role?

Peterhouse is seeking to appoint a talented and motivated Class Teacher to join them as soon as possible. Our successful candidate will offer our pupils the best teaching and learning experiences and opportunities, ensuring they achieve the excellent outcomes they deserve. Having experience working with learners with autism is essential, and our successful candidates will be selected based on their commitment and enthusiasm to learn and apply new skills to achieve the very best for our learners and their individual development. Due to the growth of the school, we are looking to appoint from a range of experience:

  • Mainstream teachers who have knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and SEN in mainstream
  • Teachers with expertise in working with students with high needs ASD
  • Teachers who would be able to cover classes with students across a range of phases​​​​​​​

Peterhouse is a non-maintained specialist school for children and young people aged 5 to 19 with a diagnosis of ASC.  The school was established in 1974 and is administered by the charity Autism Initiatives.  We use a highly individualised, strength-based approach to meet the often complex needs of our young people, aiming to prepare each one of them to become a successful autistic adult.  Our provision is continually developing, responding to the changing needs or our cohort as well as to developments in autism research.  Our staff are reflective practitioners, keen to learn and develop their skills.  Come and join our friendly and welcoming team at a school where you will make a real difference to the lives of learners!
