About Us

Beddington Infants’ School is part of the Sutton Local Authority family of maintained schools and is a founding member of the Sutton Education Trust, set up to enhance the life chances of every child in our schools.   We are a happy, lively school with a strong team of committed staff.   Some have been in the school for a while, others are recently appointed.   The children are confident and friendly and come from a variety of backgrounds.   All of our children live locally.

No class has more than 30 children and the teaching staff are well supported by teaching assistants.   We work closely with a range of external professionals including health, the learning support team and educational psychologists.  We welcome NVQ students and work experience students.    The Seven GIfts of Beddington Infants' School underpins everything that we do. In our ambition to achieve the best for every child we offer a dynamic and inspirational learning environment that enables the children to learn with adults and to apply the skills and new knoweldge independently, leading to a deep learning experience.

Our provision is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Philosophy, which is widely acknowledged as one of the most effective in the world due to the fact that it is truly age-appropriate and designed to educate the whole child.  When the children leave Beddington Infants’ School almost all of them transfer to Holy Trinity Junior School which is separated from us by a large playing field which we share.   We have a close relationship with Holy Trinity Junior School with whom we are linked by custom and practice even though they are a Church of England School and we are not.    Our school was inspected by Ofsted in April ‘14 when it received a very good report.  We have been awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark, Healthy School Status, Smile for Life, the Active Mark and we have just been awarded the Green Flag (eco award) for the sixth time.   Although we are keen for the children to do well, we value social and emotional development as much as academic progress.

Parents are very supportive of the school and there is a thriving Parent Teacher Association called Beddington Buddies.   Visitors and parents regularly join their children in the learning environment. We have many parent/adult volunteers working in classrooms on a regular basis.  The Governors are committed and involved with the life of the school at many levels.  They visit the school regularly and support us in a wide variety of ways to ensure that the school is the best it can be.

About Beddington Infants' School

Beddington Infants’ School – where pupils and staff “ Reach for the Stars” and achieve “ outstanding “ results.

Beddington Infants’ is a three form entry L.A. maintained school for boys and girls aged 3-7. The school has 9 classes and a Nursery; there are usually 30 children in each class in the main school and 26 children attending in each Nursery session.

In May 2006, Beddington Infants’ received an “ outstanding and exemplary” ruling from OFSTED across the whole Every Child Matters agenda. We see this as a vindication of the inclusive, child-centred ethos of the school, encompassing;

• High standards, positive attitudes, promotion of self-worth for pupils and staff;
• Respect for each other;
• Taking responsibility for our actions and environment;
• Working in a stimulating and safe environment, and
• Appreciating humour!!!!

As a school, we are constantly looking to provide new experiences for our pupils. Whilst we are extremely proud of our OFSTED ruling, we know that there is always room for improvement and are using the seal of approval as a stepping stone to look at different ways in which pupils can be stimulated, encouraged and enthused, to complement the existing successful formula!!
